This is the third book in this series and we were introduced to the characters in the last book and I believe she set up the next book. This book of course has mystery and romance with the fake engagement trope. Poppy is a damsel in distress (but not really). The characters are likable and we get to know the characters from previous books even better. Her books continue getting better over time!

I didn’t realize until 3/4 in that this book is a sequel! I’ll have to revisit after reading the first two.
i didn't love the first two books of this series that much but omg this book changed everything. first of all, i have been reading solely historical romance at the moment because i am in fact in a massive bridgerton hangover until the rest of season 3 comes out in june. first off, the vibes of the romance absolutely elite, i love some marriage of convenience, i'm a big fan of the trope. secondly, i loved the whole found family element, not to mention the dowager was so fun. also the mystery in this one was so intriguing i could not put this book down. i literally devoured this book, even though i had it on my shelf for a year. all the male main characters in this series actually have been really well written, as well as the female main characters, but it felt like there was more of an even distribution of the male and female viewpoints in this book, which made it more well rounded, in my opinion. anyways, you should 100% read the other books in this series before this one if only for the satisfaction of seeing the arcs of these characters and getting all the little cameos of the other couples. 5 ⭐️!!

Manda Collins does it again! This series is such a fun mashup of mystery, romance, strong women, and dashing dukes.
Poppy Delamare (aka Flora Deaver) ran away from home two years prior to escape an arranged marriage. In her absence, her sister was married to him and now stands accused of his murder. Poppy races home to clear her sister‘s name, and, as she departs, runs into the Duke of Langham, who is coincidentally traveling to the same town for his grandmother’s house party.
Joshua, the Duke of Langham, has no desire to be paraded in front of potential future duchesses and proposes an arrangement to Poppy. He will throw his ducal weight around and clear her sister, and she will pose as his betrothed for the duration of their time at his grandmother’s.
Historical romance’s fake fiance trope scratches the same itch as modern marriage of convenience for me. The forced proximity, romantic glances “to keep up appearances”, and plentiful opportunities to get to know one another are so romantic. This story also balances the mystery plot line extremely well. I did not guess how much deeper the mystery would run, and I loved the conclusion of the story.
Is it too much to hope that we’ll see Adrian in book four??

I like the vibe of these books— Are they particularly memorable? no. Are they super enjoyable? yes! Very PBS Masterpiece Mystery which I might have said in my last review for this author, but still an applicable compliment of the highest degree!
This book was SO good, but I really really wished the ending was longer…. It got wrapped up far too fast….. this book just needed to be longer
