Gunner! Gunney! Gunney! Gun! Gun!
I think this is actually my favourite Kristy Bromberg book, ever, ever, ever. Even better than the Driven books. Even better than Sweet Cheeks (and I absolutely loved Sweet Cheeks). Even better than Sweet Ache, guitar picks and all.
Littlest Kincade sister Chase goes to find the guy who had potential to be a big baseball star but he fell through the cracks and enlisted in the army instead. He could be a great PR story for Kincade Sports Management but as a minimum she will let him know KSM were definitely interested in signing him and they wish him well.
I thought the story was going to be about the Invictus Games and that made me really, really happy because I haven’t read anything like that before and those men and women who take part in the games are monumental heroes. It wasn’t about the Invictus Games, but I’m throwing it out as a challenge.
I just absolutely fell totally in love with Gunner. His kisses are face melting, panty dropping, swooooooonicious. Oh my oh my! I need his kisses in my life. He’s a hero and he has no clue just how special and amazing he is. I worship him. He’s just a fantastic character. Kristy - thank you for giving him to me.
Chase is a sweetheart and how could she possibly resist Gunner’s charms? It’s just beyond the ability of any woman alive or book character to not fall madly in love with him.
This book is not FUBAR it’s an absolute jackpot.

I've been obsessed with this series from the moment I read the first book but I think Chase and Gunner top my list (so far, because I'm super excited for the next book). Chase and Gunner's story is heartbreaking and beautiful as they grow and change after meeting each other and realizing what they want from life.
Gunner's story is emotionally hard to read because he didn't catch a break in life, every time life is going right for him its ripped away and he is left picking up the peices. However, Gunner handles what life dealt to him with humility and grace so much so, it's so easy to see how Chase developed feelings for him so easily. Chase lives her life so confidently that seeing her shook up after meeting Gunner was so good. She deserves the world even if she doesn't think she needed it. I loved Chase's interactions with her sisters and how much she wanted their life while not wanting it at all. Chase and Gunner's story was amazing and I'll be so sad when this series is over!!

"Hard to Lose" by K. Bromberg was nothing like I expected it to be, in the best of ways. Unlike its predecessors in this series, I wouldn't really classify it as a sports romance at all; it felt more like a small town/military romance to me. While male lead Ryan "Gunner" Camden was a former baseball player and his reasons for giving up the game were an important part of the story, his time in the military and the life he built after his discharge were just as important, if not more so. Gunner had quite a bit of survivor's guilt and other baggage to work through, but I loved that he chose to channel those feelings into helping others and living every day like it was his last, rather than withdrawing into himself and becoming a grumpy recluse.
Gunner's love interest, sports agent Chase Kincade, was a Type A overachiever who loved lists, and it seemed like a relationship between them would never work. They were drawn to each other from the moment Chase walked into Gunner's bar, however, and I adored their flirty, witty banter as their relationship blossomed. It always seemed like they were having fun together, no matter what they were doing. The problem was that their relationship was based on a lie, and deception was a total deal breaker for Gunner. Chase and Gunner were both likeable, sympathetic characters, and I found it easy to see both sides in their conflict as well as root for them to overcome the challenges standing in the way of their HEA.
I think I've said this about every book in the series so far, but "Hard to Lose" may have been my favorite one yet. I highly recommend it for all fans of emotional contemporary romance and am really looking forward to the next book in the series. I can't wait to find out how the author redeems Finn Sanderson's character given that he has been such a jerk up to now!

This was a very good read. I really felt like I knew these charaters. This story was well written
4.5⭐️/5⭐️
Okay but let’s talk about how the author has given us four different books with four different sports involved. I LOVE THAT!!!!! Even though these are considered sports romance they are more than just that I love the diversity of topics within these books, illnesses, addictions, trauma (military). I’m glad this series was my first reads of 2022.
I loved how over the four books we got to see the sister’s relationship develop and grow because Dekker had said they tend to fight like cats and dogs but over the books we see them develop.
Gunner and Chases humour and wit is so funny perfectly fit each other I love it! I love Gunner and all he is doing for families who’ve lost a loved one in the military, I love how he cares for Chase and Chase realizes it’s nice to have someone care for her. I like how they both help each other guide one another through their pain and trauma (of his time in military and her mother’s death).
SPOILERS AHEAD:
Things I liked:
- Dekker’s pregnant, I screamed into my pillow.
- When Nix tells Chase that Gunner fazed by her
- Their first date
- “And yet oddly with Chase . . . with Chase, I want to share. Want to make her smile. Want to talk.”
- Gunner saying he didn’t have any nightmares after sleeping with Chase
- Gunner being good with kids and being their mentors
- The crowd in the bar cheering when Gunner kisses Chase, I died.
- I love how creative all their dates are
- Them dancing in the rain (When Gunner doesn’t dance)
- “You’re the first person I’ve ever shown both sets of scars to, Chase.” “And both sets are beautiful to me.”
- When Gunner took Chase to a rage room during the anniversary week of her mother’s death.
- “His hands come up to frame my face and his eyes hold mine. “Because we’re two peas in a pod, Chase. We may have gotten in that pod by different routes, but somehow, we fit there. Somehow, we understand each other. Somehow, we know it works.”
- Omfg please Brexton and Drew’s wedding (sobbing)
- THE WHOLE CHAPTER WHERE WE SEE WHERE THE SISTERS ARE WITH KIDS AND ALL THAT. YEAH I WAS SOBBING.
It's okay.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
Best to read the series in order.
HEA.
Epilogue.

Hard to Lose is the fourth book in the Play Hard Series by K. Bromberg, but it can be read as a standalone. This series follows the Kincade sisters and their work at the sports management team their father owns.
Hard to Lose follows Chase Kincade, the youngest of four sisters, and Gunner, a veteran that was once being recruited to play in the major leagues. I loved that Chase was able to learn about herself and her motives while being with Gunner and learning from them.
The attraction was instant. Gunner was so sweet and broken, I wanted to give him a hug for the way his mom had failed to protect him. Will Chase get the chance to right the wrongs she's done by lying to Gunner about who she is? Or will the lies tear them apart?
This book had all the feels and was fast moving. It was about a lost letter and small towns.
Even though I don't love Finn, I'm happy there will be more of this world!

Thank you to Valentine PR and the author for my advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.
I wasn't too sure of Chase before this story. I didn't get a definite feel for her in the previous books, except that she is the youngest and was cheated on by Finn. I don't think Chase knows what she wants. She seems to be at a crossroads in her life and not sure she wants the husband/babies like her sisters.
When a five year old no thank you letter from a baseball prospect turned military veteran lands on her desk, she is intrigued. Chase wants to find this mysterious man and generate some good press for Kincade Sports Management. In her searching for Ryan Camden, Chase finds Gunner in a small town in Virginia called Destiny Falls and she is instantly drawn to him. When their short term relationship becomes something more, Chase learns something about Gunner that could have done more harm than good in her search for Ryan.
This is another enjoyable installment of this series. I really liked the military veteran aspect of this book. Gunner is still dealing with the aftermath of his time there and guilt over surviving and losing his "brothers." He is a genuinely good person and I was rooting for him and Chase.
I've been seeing some redemption of Finn's character in these last two books and I am so excited that this series will be continuing with his story next!

Not as addictive as the first book in the series, but to be fair, I initially only started reading this book to see what Dekker and Hunter (the main characters from Hard to Handle) were up to. While reading this, I kind of alternated between not wanting to put it down, and forcing myself to keep going. It sometimes felt like I was watching an accident happen in slow motion - I knew the explosion that was coming, the only question was when it would happen. It was hard to keep reading when I already had a good idea of the main conflict of the story. Still, the characters won me over so I stayed for them.
