Hard to Lose

K. Bromberg

4.23 AVERAGE

This series gets better and better with every book. Chase’s book has way more angst than the rest. She is seeking out Ryan Camden, the former college pitcher turned vet, for all the wrong reasons. Destiny Falls quickly shows her that her win-at-all costs outlook on life is not the only way to live. This girl goes down swinging denying all the signs around her. That happiness and success can come in many different forms. That closing yourself off is not the only way to win.

Chase and Ryan go into their relationship with half truths. It makes for one angsty and steamy read. I couldn’t get enough. I knew where Chase was going but her road to get there was less than forthcoming. This was an emotional read on so many levels. But one I’d gladly pick up again.

I was absolutely swept away by this story. Chase and Gunner’s romance captivated my heart.

To be honest, I do not generally love a military romance / military hero. It is just isn’t my go-to, but I loved Gunner. The man he is in this book was just swoon-worthy, and his broken past only served to make him more endearing. He is one of my favorite characters of the series.

Like the previous heroines of this series, I love that Chase is a female sports agent, someone making her way in a male dominated sport. I loved her her heart and the way she came alive with Gunner.

The story was especially romantic. I lived for their moments, as they both brought each other to life. The narrators did a fantastic job with the narration and really making me feel these moments with them.

With each standalone in this series, I fall more in love with this family and this world. It’s everything a romance should be!

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

Gunner has absolutely solidified himself as my favorite Kristy hero and he is without question a hero. Gosh I have a such soft spot for soldiers & ball players…and Gunner checks both those boxes plus he is sweet, sexy, funny, compassionate, he gives himself freely to help military kids who have lost a parent. Oh my goodness is there anything that he can’t do? I love how genuine he is with Chase & how he lets himself fall for her. Most importantly how he goes after what he wants. NO REGRETS—no truer words to live by.

I’m so happy that Chase has found her peace in Gunner. Their story may have started with a white lie but there’s no denying that they are each others soulmate.

Hard to Lose just may be my favorite book in K. Bromberg’s Play Hard series, and it is in large part due to the male lead who is guaranteed to win your heart.

What starts out as Chase determined to find ways to promote her family’s fledgling sports management firm, quickly evolves into a very emotional and engaging story involving a military veteran.

Gunner is a war hero and former pro-baseball hopeful who now devotes his life to serving military families affected by loss. Could the man be more selfless, supportive, and all-around perfect? Apparently, the answer is no. No, he could not.

I absolutely loved Chase and Gunner as a couple. The unique dates, passionate kisses, frank talks, and funny exchanges they share warmed my heart. Gunner’s life story has all the feels. As he lowers his guard more and more to let Chase in, my anxiety regarding her deception increased.

Short chapters make Hard to Lose a quick read yet still a very satisfying love story.

Chase is the most goal orientated, organized, accomplished woman I have read about and it is honestly amazing how well she sets goals and tackles them instantly, but at times it was frustrating watching her lose herself in work. She is highly competitive and is determined to make her family’s agency the best of the best. The youngest of 4 girls she feels that this sets her apart from her siblings, yet it only makes them worry about her having a life outside of work even more. Determined not to let their competition get the best of them she sets out to find a guy that wrote a letter years ago that only showed up recently, he was a phenomenal baseball player but enlisted in the military instead. Chase’s intentions seem shady, and I didn’t like she was going to use an ex-military guy’s past to further her career, but her heart was truly in the right place eventually, even if she never wanted to admit it at first. Gunner is ex-military, hasn’t had the best home life, struggles with survivor’s guilt constantly, but he is a survivor and that matters the most. He is genuinely a unicorn in the form of a down to earth, humble, kind, compassionate, and loving man who is perfection even with the scars inside and out. The chemistry between these two is instant but more importantly they have a connection that defies logic that they can’t seem to fight. I wanted Chase to be upfront with Gunner so many times because you just knew that it was only a matter of time before he found out her true intentions of being in town, but of course she didn’t. Chase changed herself just by being around someone so caring and selfless, for the better she went from selfish to loving without even noticing. I hated how she was yet another person to break a broken man, yet the way she helped heal his heart was beautiful.

I received an arc for a honest review.

THIS ONE have to be my favorite from the series. Kristy outdid herself with this one. Colton have been my favorite hero from Kristy, and I think Gunner just took the throne. He was such an amazing man, almost perfect! I don't really like insta-love story, but it works for this one.

Chase was the youngest of the four Kincade sisters. After getting out of an ugly relationship, she decided to not do relationships anymore and just focused on work/goals. She received a 5 years old letter from Ryan Camden, veteran hero, who gave up on baseball. She immediately went out to go look for him whether it be for publicity or curiosity. Chase met Gunner in a bar, and they hit it right off the bat. The chemistry was amazing. Gunner was goals, had a heart of gold, and was selfless. He was EVERYTHING. Chase tried to fight her feelings for Gunner so much. They were good for each other.

Hard to Lose gave me ALL THE FEELS. Pick up this story!! It's just not on love, but also on PTSD, grieving, military, abuse, healing. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!!!

Man I love this series, these sisters are just great to read about. This is such a cute story. Chase is on a hunt for a baseball player who wrote a letter 5 years ago, and it lands on her desk. Its her mission to find him. They find each other but don't know it, until later. This one has steam and such a good HEA.

Also, just loooove that Fin is getting his own story.
