Jeez,
Where to start...
This book was great - superb - actually.
I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. And when it did, it did so in spectacular fashion.

The chemistry that Gunner and Chase had was crystal clear from their first meeting.

What can you expect?
* Ex-military hero with a heart of gold.
* Confident sports agent who thrives on setting and achieving goals.
* Sexual chemistry and magnetic attraction.
* Sweet dates and tender moments.
* ALL THE FEELS.

If that isn’t enough to convince you then: the broken hearts, the bettered hearts, the battered hearts, and the mended hearts make it worth a read.

That ending was super cute (and sweet)!

A solid 4.5 stars

Chase is the most goal orientated, organized, accomplished woman I have read about and it is honestly amazing how well she sets goals and tackles them instantly, but at times it was frustrating watching her lose herself in work. She is highly competitive and is determined to make her family’s agency the best of the best. The youngest of 4 girls she feels that this sets her apart from her siblings, yet it only makes them worry about her having a life outside of work even more. Determined not to let their competition get the best of them she sets out to find a guy that wrote a letter years ago that only showed up recently, he was a phenomenal baseball player but enlisted in the military instead. Chase’s intentions seem shady, and I didn’t like she was going to use an ex-military guy’s past to further her career, but her heart was truly in the right place eventually, even if she never wanted to admit it at first. Gunner is ex-military, hasn’t had the best home life, struggles with survivor’s guilt constantly, but he is a survivor and that matters the most. He is genuinely a unicorn in the form of a down to earth, humble, kind, compassionate, and loving man who is perfection even with the scars inside and out. The chemistry between these two is instant but more importantly they have a connection that defies logic that they can’t seem to fight. I wanted Chase to be upfront with Gunner so many times because you just knew that it was only a matter of time before he found out her true intentions of being in town, but of course she didn’t. Chase changed herself just by being around someone so caring and selfless, for the better she went from selfish to loving without even noticing. I hated how she was yet another person to break a broken man, yet the way she helped heal his heart was beautiful.

Hard to Lose is the fourth book in the Play Hard series. This is Chase Kincaid's story. Each book so far has been the story of one of the daughters who are all sports agents at KSM. This has been my favorite one so far, they are all well worth the read.
Chase is the youngest and has always tried to focus on her lists and ticking off her accomplishments to keep herself grounded. Now she's off on a search for the man whose letter arrived five years after it was sent from a base in Afghanistan. She's looking for a way to make sure he's okay and that he was wanted. Best laid plans can often go array.
Gunner has said goodbye to his dreams and put his past to bed. He's one of the lucky ones who made it home. He didn't forget his fallen brothers and honors them in the work he does and the community outreach he pours himself into. Letting people past his barriers is difficult until he sees Chase. Looking for a little fun quickly becomes more than either of them expect. But secrets have a way of coming out and forgiveness can be in steps of your strong enough to reach for it.

Can we pause for a moment and just acknowledge that this is my favorite out of the whole series. It's 1:30am and I was so emotionally drawn into this story that I just had to get this review up now.

Gunner and Chase were so good together. I loved their emotional connection and how they just get each other. It killed me and I also loved that we the readers knew things the characters didn't know most of the story. It made me really need to see how it would all pan out, this snowball situation that I won't spoil but seriously, you need to read this one. The sweetness of the entire story was just so touching. The emotional climax of the story, I was having ALL the feels. Don't let this deter you. It's a romance, you know there's a HEA, but it's written so beautifully that you will speed through the last 20% of the book because you WANT it to all work out for the characters.

This entire series was just so good! I loved the family aspect of it. The sisterly bond where they love and sometimes hate each other. And their sweet and stoic father. So good. You have strong characters, both the men and women. Circumstances, others actions, and life happen - and when each of these couples meet, it was just meant to be.

Chase Kincade is the last sister to get her story and it is so worth the wait!

Chase is goal orientated and straight forward about what she wants to accomplish. When she receives a letter 5 years too late she feels a pull to find out the mystery she can't explain. It brings her to a small military town and to Ryan "Gunner" Camden. This man will make you swoon in all the best possible ways. His tale is so heartbreaking but what he does with everything that happened to him is just amazing. From the start they are drawn together but of course the secrets just pile up until Chase doesn't know how to escape them.

These two were perfection together and may just be my favorite couple! Their backstories and the dates (all the festivals have me wanting to visit this town!) will have you devouring every page. All the feels with this book for sure!

I have loved this entire series and while the sisters stories might be told Hard to Love is coming and I can't wait!

“Giving up a dream is like saying you’ve run out of hope.”

K. Bromberg has been quoted as saying that her hero for Hard to Lose, her newest book in her Play Hard series, is one of her favorites. And it’s easy to understand why Gunner meets those standards. This book, the last of the sisters of this series of standalones, has a heroine who self-sabotages in ways that can be absolutely frustrating. Don’t get me wrong. That isn’t a bad thing; it creates an emotional connection to her that is hard to break even when you want throw your Kindle against the wall at her choices. What truly saves you in those moments, though, is Gunner, Bromberg’s hero. He is the preeminent hero: protective, compassionate, masculine, and adoring of the heroine. You cannot help but to love him, even when he has to make the choice to part from Chase. It isn’t a surprise; in fact, as the reader, you will readily raise your hand and yell, “pick me” because he’s just that good.

Hard to Lose is the story of Chase, the youngest sister and daughter. We know, from the earlier books in the series, that each of the girls has struggled with their mother’s death in a variety of ways. It clings to each of them like a shadow causing them to make choices in life to either run from or avoid handling her death. For Chase, she’s used control to protect herself from hurt. Even more, she’s chosen emotionally unobtainable men with whom she engages in temporary relationships because nothing seems permanent after enduring her mother’s death.

One day, her father gives her a letter that had been sent five years prior from a former prospective baseball player, but was lost enroute until now. As she reads the letter, Chase feels a connection to the letter writer, and she endeavors to find out what happened with its author, Ryan Camden. After visiting his hometown, she finds out that he’s now living in Destiny Falls after a stint in the military. Thinking that she might be able to create a PR opportunity with Ryan, she goes to Destiny Falls. Who she finds is Gunner, the owner and bartender of the local bar, FU-Bar. From their meeting, Gunner and Chase are drawn to each other. Gunner distracts her so much that she forgets about Ryan...until it’s unavoidable.

Gunner is struggling with survivor’s guilt after his time in the military. Everything he does in life he does to honor the men he was unable to save: the bar he owns and the volunteer organization that helps children of fallen soldiers. Gunner is the best of men, and he is as drawn to Chase as she is drawn to him. As their journey becomes complicated by Chase’s lies, though, their future together becomes endangered. Is it possible for Gunner to dream again? Or will a life with Chase be “hard to lose?”

The essence of Hard to Lose is in its title. There is quite a bit of loss in this story: a loss of a dream, a loss of a parent, a loss of a friend, and even a loss of hope. Throughout this story, Bromberg uses the love affair between Chase and Gunner to be the catalyst for her message: it’s all right to have hope and to dream new dreams. What Bromberg shows her readers is the necessity to move beyond the fear of hoping and dreaming again. Both Chase and Gunner struggle with overcoming that fear, and Bromberg takes her readers on a delicious emotional journey as they learn to overcome their fears so that they can be together. Bromberg makes you fall in love with her characters, and by the end of the story, it is quite the adorable fest. Honestly, the epilogue of this story will make you swoon.

K. Bromberg’s Hard to Lose definitely has a hero whom you will adore. But she has a heroine who is like many of us: afraid to take a chance on becoming vulnerable with someone else. Chase fights it, and she almost loses. Yet, this is K. Bromberg, and we read in romancelandia, so never fear: happy endings are right around the corner.

I love Chase and Gunner! Such an amazing story of the blows life can deal you. Their chemistry is amazing.

Sadly, the lowest rating out of all 4 Kincade sisters. I just didn’t really feel the connection between Chase and Gunner but mainly it’s the lie. Chase’s lie was really the main thing I didn’t like. I get it. I understood it but she had so many openings to come clean but nope.

Also, I wish Chase was the one who went after and fought for Gunner. He didn’t have people who fought for him in the past and I wish she did that. I wish we got scenes where she asked for forgiveness and showed him she really feels bad about the lie and earned his forgiveness. She should’ve been the one who went to Destiny Falls.

From the reading the description I actually thought there’ll be more of the baseball aspect. This series is about athletes after all. I thought he was going to get signed and really start a career in baseball. Kick start his dream. I missed that one too.

Overall, the story had potential but just fell flat for me, sadly.
