4.5 stars really!
While the other books in this series have definitely been sports romances, this one didn’t quite fit into that. All because Gunner didn’t get to take his life on that career path. Thanks to his stepfather and things that became out of his control. But it still was a really good book and I loved the characters so much. Except for the one thing they did that totally made me so mad! The fact that Chase kept the secret from him for so long, even as she thought about how she should tell him is what made me drop the rating on this down from a 5. I hate when that happens, even if it is a type of device that a lot of authors use to add the drama. And then I hated how upset he got with her about it too. Because honestly, it really wasn’t that big of a deal if you think about it. She never once did anything that would make her keeping that hidden a secret, which she didn’t do the whole time.
But I loved the little town and I loved all the little dates and times they spent together. It was fun getting the meetings between Chase and her sisters and her dad. The banter between all of them is always so much fun and this book was no exception to that. Another great story from Bromberg!

I have to make a confession. This is the first K Bromberg book I have read in a while. I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this book and I am so glad I did! It quickly reminded (I’m talking within the first 5% of the book) how excellent a writer K Bromberg is and that I’m definitely going to have to read more of her books again. One of my top favorites is from her, the Driven series. Do your self a favor and check it out if you haven’t!
Enough about that though, let’s talk about Hard to Lose. This story follows Chase, the youngest sister of 3 girls, and Gunner Camden, a war hero who has a lot of trauma in his past. This book is part of a series, but is a complete standalone. So much so that I didn’t even read or feel like I had to read the first book in the series to comfortably jump in to this one. That says a lot, because I don’t think I’ve ever done that before! Naturally though, because of how good this book was, the others in the series immediately went into my TBR piles!
Chase is a sports agent in her family business and is constantly trying to outperform and show her family how efficient and talented she is. This isn’t done in a snobby way at all, more of a younger sibling just trying to prove themself to the older ones. She is highly motivated and attacks the day and her goals with a fire that is beyond impressive. Her go get ‘em attitude I think is one of the things Gunner falls in love with first! That and her overall confidence. Chase is the type of girl that everyone wants to be!
Gunner has created an incredible life for himself after a lifetime of trouble, people who were supposed to love him letting him down, and multiple traumas from his childhood and his time serving overseas. The thing I love most about Gunner’s character is his passion for helping other kids who’ve gone through similar situations as him. He shares his love, his passion, his compassion, to those who need it and deserve it more than anyone but often get overlooked. If a girl doesn’t fall in love with a man like Gunner, I’d have to wonder what’s missing with her!
While I’ve painted the dreamboat picture of Gunner and a fierce picture of Chase, they both have their downfalls. Their chemistry is on fire and you can tell that just through reading their story which is pretty incredible. The fire can burn, though, and sometimes when two people who are both a little guarded with their feelings and not comfortable with being vulnerable get together, they can end up hurting each other. Deceit is something Gunner has said he can’t come back from. Chase didn’t know it at the start, but is now struggling with a major decision on what to do.
The end of this story is angsty and heartbreaking and leaves you wondering how it’s all going to play out. I’ll be honest, it didn’t end the way I thought it would. It ended similarly, but let’s just say I expected the roles to be reversed at the end, but I think it worked out well in the end!
I really enjoyed this story and hope you’ll take a chance on it too!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC to this fourth book in the Play Hard series which can also be read as a Standalone, thanks to Valentine PR in exchange for a spoiler free honest review.
I was addicted to this small town romance story from the first chapter. This story follows the fourth (and youngest) Kinkade sister; Chase, on her adventure into finding her person. In enters Gunner, an ex-baseball player who was forced into deployment rather than following his dream of becoming a professional baseball player. Since his deployment has ended, he has escaped to the small town of Destiny Falls, where many other soldiers return to settle down. This town also has many families who are currently waiting for their father to return home from deployment, bringing in a sense of being for Gunner as he tutors and guides young children who have lost a dad or whose dad has not been around for quite some time.
I adored Gunner. He had me straight away with his huge heart. He has so much guilt for being alive when some of his friends did not make him home, and he turns that guilt into love. He was the perfect gentleman for Chase. He proved to Chase that there are decent men out there and he gave Chase the love and attention she more than deserved. I say more than deserved because Chase keeps a huge secret from Gunner for a good 80% of the book AND IT GOT ANNOYING! JUST TELL HIM GOSH DAMMIT!
And with that, that is why I had to take a star. Chase has plenty of opportunities to be real with him, especially when he is real and raw towards her so many times. It was frustrating to read and I did have to put my kindle down for a break from it. But all in all, I still adored this story of love, hope and freedom, and do recommend it for an emotional but easy romance read on a Sunday afternoon.

I enjoyed this book more than the previous ones. I’m especially glad at how it ended in a way I had not expected.

“The best relationships are the ones you never saw coming.”
Who knew a letter lost in the mail for 5 years would turn into the best romance story!! The storyline of this book is simply outstanding! There is so much intertwined from a military aspect to past trauma to sports to faking it. I don’t mean to be vague with those topics but this story is so well written and developed that it is best discovered as you read than to be spoiled to fully appreciate the journey of Gunner and Chase! Just know the narrative that ensues will have your heart aching, but also swooning and feeling all the emotions! Gunner is one man you won’t be able to forget anytime soon!
Audible version: I love Jason Clarke and Savannah Peachwood as narrators but I loved them even more together for this book!! Their voices compliment each other so well and was an incredible performance by both of them!

- Gunner (Ryan) and chase
- Military vet, small town, agent,
Chase is on a mission to find an old player that went into the military after high school instead of playing baseball. She gets word he might be in this small town but not to bring up exactly why she's there to anyone because she will be shut out fast by the town, they protect their own. She goes down to the locals bar and starts hitting it off with the bartender, Gunner. She tells him she is a grad student working on a paper.
Gunner got out of the military and stuck to his word to open a bar with some of his crew. When Chase walks into his bar, he knows he wants to start actually living his life, specifically with her. The one things he values more than anything else is honestly.

When a letter shows up five years after it was sent Chase Kincade is determined to find the man who had sent it and this leads her to a small town.
Ryan ‘Gunnar’ Camden had a promising baseball career, at least until he joined the military and what was left of his old life no longer existed. Baseball became a form of therapy for him, but that was it. He spent his time running a small town bar and helping children who have lost parents in combat. Chase is kind of lost when it comes to her life. She has walls to protect herself thanks to her cheating ex, Finn, but she is drawn to Ryan just based on single letter. When she meets Gunnar on her quest, there is a connection and the two are instantly drawn to each other. But when secrets come out is it something that they will be able to overcome?
I loved Chase and I am glad to finally know more about her, since there wasn’t a whole lot in any of the previous books of the series. I loved seeing her find herself and slowly let down the walls she had built. Gunnar, well how can you not love him? He is caring, sweet, and giving. He still struggles with what he experienced while in combat, but Chase quickly becomes someone that can help those nightmares stay away. I couldn’t get enough of the two of them together!

What a beautiful story! This time around we get the Chase Kincade and Gunner Camden's story and it will bring out feels you least expected with the characters always guarded. This read was filled with many honest moments and desire; however, how they came together is one that will either make them whole or break them into pieces.
Chase is determine to bring KSM presence to new and trending heights and hoping that her plan of the mysterious lost letter that was sent to her father will get them there. Finding this athlete who does not want to be found is a challenge that will not stop her. Little did she expect to meet Gunner a bar owner to occupy her thoughts.
Gunner is so sweet and kindhearted. He did surprising things for others that will have you fall hard and deep for. He was not the typical people would peg them out for. He also has a history that will have you breaking and think of all the what ifs.
As their friendship progresses we see two people with possibilities for more. But with Chase stay temporary the chance for more is nonexistence. Their honesty with each other of what is going on with their growing feels had them living in the moment with no regrets. Will that be enough for the time being? What happens when the one reality comes into light?
This read will have you believing that everything happens for a reason. People change and the one meant to be with &/or surrounded with will bring either bring out the best or worse in you. To live in the moments because tomorrow may not come and to take step out of your comfort soon in hopes that more is possible.
