Oh my heart. I was completely taken with this story. There are many reasons why this book was a solid five stars, but honestly the main reason undoubtedly was because of Gunner.
Hard to Lose is the fourth book in the Play Hard series. In this installment we get Chase’s story, the youngest Kinkade sister. I obviously had no idea what to expect, but I was definitely surprised at the the amount of emotions that poured out of me.
Chase is a beast at what she does. She’s successful and gets the job done in whatever she sets her mind to. She’s goal-oriented and career driven, simply put she’s a badass. I loved her take charge attitude and tenacity as well. More importantly though I really enjoyed watching her realize that the things she thought she didn’t want are the things that barreled right into her life without warning and there was no stopping them, especially opening herself up as well as her heart to love.
Gunner, Gunner, Gunner be still my freaking heart. From the start I was a goner, my heart was claimed from the very first page. Gunner undoubtedly is the most selfless and amazing man. His story hurt, the things he went though pierced my soul. He deserved every good thing and most importantly to be happy. I loved his big and giving heart and it was one of the many reasons that added to the incredible man Gunner is. I loved him, I loved him, I loved him.
Chase and Gunner brought the fire. The attraction between them was undeniable and the chemistry was hot, hot, hot. I loved the playfulness between them and their banter. I also loved that they were vulnerable and confided in each other which ultimately led them to fully trust one another. They really and truly made the perfect pair.
Hard to Lose brought all the feels. Chase and Gunner’s story was heartwarming and beautiful. Their romance was filled with an abundance of hope and healing. This book became my favorite in the Play Hard series, so incredibly fantastic.

"Remember this. The best relationships are the ones you never saw coming."
A fun, flirty and emotionally gripping story that will break your heart and then put it back together while filling it fuller than you thought possible.
Chase finds a letter that was sent to her father and is determined to find the guy who wrote the letter. She heads to his hometown of Destiny Falls but when asked what she is doing there by the hot bartender she makes up a story. Gunner has put his dreams of being a baseball player behind him ever since his enlistment into the military. When Chase walks into his bar he remembers his motto "live each day like you're dying." The secrets and dishonesty come out making things seem like they are too good to be true.
WOW! This book captured me and dug its hooks in right from the very beginning and did not let go. I endured every single emotion possible reading this book and it has left me with a huge book hangover that is going to take a long time to get over. If you are going to read this book, which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, make sure to have the tissues beside you. Gunner is the most selfless person ever and I completely fell in love with him. As strong and unfazed as she seemed, it was great to see the softer side of Chase. This book hit my personal triggers but even with that begin said, this is a TOP 2021 READ.

“You’re the first person I’ve ever shown both sets of scars to, Chase.”
.
Review: This is Book 4 in the Play Hard series. It focuses on Chase, who is the youngest of the Kinkade sisters. Their story is my absolute favorite!
.
Chase is driven and has goals. She knows what she wants to accomplish and achieve in her life. She starts each day with her list ready to go.
.
Gunner is a war vet who is determined to give back. Everything he does is with someone else in mind. He knows how precious life is.
.
A letter arrives at Kinkade Sports Management that has been lost in the mail for 5 years. Something draws Chase to want to find out where this soldier is and what became of him. After all, he gave up his love of baseball to serve his country. So, Chase heads to small town Destiny Falls. When she meets a charming bartender, there is instant attraction. She might as well have a little fun while she searches for this soldier. "No Regrets." Chase and Gunner were everything and their growth was beautiful. I loved them so much together. They just fit and were able to open up to each other and be the sav to each others wounds. Teaching each other to fully live again. Gunner is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! He is such an incredible man! The huge heart of gold this man has...left me speechless. He may have moved to the top of my book boyfriend list! "You’re one of those guys that someone gets ahold of and doesn’t let go..." TRUTH! This is a beautiful story about love, forgiveness and living with no regrets. It hits you in all the feels and is just perfect. The updates on Dekker, Hunter, Lennox, Rush, Brexton and Drew made me so happy. The epilogues were amazing and I am a little sad to say goodbye to the Kinkades. I want more of their families. Definitely my favorite in the series. DO NOT miss this one!

lighthearted
I received an arc of this book from Valentine pr and literary management in exchange of an honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Chase and Gunner’s story is incredible, it’s so different from the previous books in the series, and whilst sport still features within, the story itself feels so much more character driven. It’s emotional, heart warming, and heart wrenching at times, it’s full of passion, joy, grief and healing. Both characters are still coming to terms with loss in their lives, though the circumstances are wildly different they both seem to really understand one another. Their connection is like nothing I’ve ever seen before.
What I love about Gunner is that he is a what you see is what you get kind of guy, he’s open and honest about himself and what he’s been through in his life, there are no secrets with him, he values honesty and practices what he preaches, even if it scares the hell out of him. And he’s genuinely a good guy even if he doesn’t believe it himself.
Chase is ambitious, focused, and fiercely passionate about her career, she knows what she wants and she knows she’ll get it, because chase doesn’t fail. Ever. So when a letter sent from a soldier in Afghanistan that has been lost in the mail for five years lands on her desk she convinces herself and her father that she should track down this soldier known as Ryan in the hopes of getting a good pr story for their company. But secretly it’s a little more than that, chase feels a strong connection to the man who wrote that letter and she personally needs to find out what became of him. She genuinely has no idea that when she walks into a bar in destiny falls, a small military town outside of Virginia Beach that Gunner is the man she is looking for. Upon the advice of others she tells a little white lie about why she has come to town and oh boy does it come back to bite her later on!
Honestly this is one of those books where I’m struggling to put into words just how good it was, because nothing I say seems to do it justice, but I strongly recommend this book. I’ll definitely be reading it again very soon!

I’ve struggled a lot with this book.
I didn’t particularly like either of the characters , the plot was ok .
I really enjoyed the others one in the series and i can’t wait ti read about Finn.

This is the fourth book of the series and loved it like the previous ones, but this one has something else to make me like it more. Chase and Gunner, are two different characters, with different point of views, yet they have things in common that truly works for them. There are secrets and intriguing things that will have you reading non-stop. Their chemistry like all of K Bromberg's books is off the charts. The story plotline was amazing, I went in blind and was surprised with it all. Chase was one of the characters whose story I really wanted to read, she was the most mysterious of them all, and Gunner was a swoony book boyfriend. I would recommend the whole series, the audiobooks are fantastic so if you like hearing the stories go for them.

This book was the least sports related than the others in this series. Chase and Gunner are PERFECT!
Chase is determined to find the military vet, Ryan Camden, that should’ve been in the MBL. What she does not expect is to have an instant attraction and connection to the bartender and owner of the bar, Gunner. What she really doesn’t expect is to fall in love with him and than find out he is actually Ryan but now goes by Gunner. He already told her the one thing that would make or break a relationship is someone deceiving him. She is terrified to tell him the truth about why she is there.
My heart broke with Gunners story! The fact that he was wanted by many agents to be in the MBL but his step dad forced him to join the military hurt me! All of that talent and the love he has for the game and he’s forced to do something he doesn’t want to. His story while in the military broke my heart. He became a new person in the military and the things he does for vets is amazing.
