I did not know in advance that this is fractured and was therefore a little bit disappointed by it. You can see the epic story and the little 'off' way it is told. But this is not a contained thing you need context.

I think this is a great version for people to read if they are unfamiliar with the story of Gilgamesh or are looking for a more approachable, less scholarly version of the epic. It’s written clearly, with some beautiful passages, and there are helpful guides in the back. However, if I were to be studying the Epic of Gilgamesh in a more academic manner, I would look for a more thorough edition. Some aspects of this translation omit certain nuances that, while not necessarily crucial to the story, may not depict things in the most accurate light. For instance, the prostitute vs. priestess dilemma.
This is a beautiful story and I think everyone should read it at some point in their lives. The humanity of it reaches right through the centuries into your heart.

I love this book. As someone who had their own tussle with grief, I have felt the pain and sadness Gilgamesh has felt. The words really sat with me on how to cope and feel. It is short and straightforward and one of my favorite classics.
