Still trying to figure out how this 450ish page book amounts to 19 hours. This was okay but essentially just outlines the major points of the Obama presidency so if you followed the headlines, you can confidently skip the second half of this.

I've read this one some time ago but I feel conflicted as I didn't find it as amazing as everyone else did or as I hoped. it was ok tho. maybe I'll write a review when I stop being lazy.
P.S. 3 stars are not because I dislike her. I find her inspiring but not everything a liked person does or writes is to be blindly praised.

This book is beautiful, powerful and incredible to listen to. Michelle truly is an inspiration for girls and poc alike, she's a passionate and intelligent powerhouse whose achievements can be used as examples of what we can achieve if we work hard enough and have the right people supporting us.

The insight into the life of a family campaigning for president and then serving as the first family was fascinating and never once felt droll or boring. This book is not about politics, it's about people and what people have the potential to accomplish.

Hearing about the doubts, hopes, dreams and fears of such an accomplished woman can't help but feel soothing - if someone, as poised and qualified as Michelle Obama, can doubt her worth it provides comfort. Even successful people struggle, and thats okay.

Furthermore, the way she politely but clearly conveyed her feelings about Trump was incredible - perhaps the classiest takedown ever.

The fact that it narrated by Michelle is not only super cool but makes it such an incredible book to listen to, as she has such a pleasant and calm voice.

I would 100% recommend this book to everyone - it's not just for people who care about politics or for Americans.

Articulate, honest, insightful and inspiring.

I've long been interested in hearing Michelle Obama's story, and finally got hold of a copy of the library audiobook, narrated by the author herself. And that really was the way to read this, with Michelle telling her own story.

Written soon after leaving the White House, she tells the warts-and-all story of her childhood, father's degenerative illness, experiences at school and with boyfriends, through to college and her the job as a lawyer where she met the perpetually-late-though-charming Barack.

This then becomes the story of how parents and a married couple and survives the world of politics, and never away from the heart of it is the story of a mother and wife, juggling demanding work with the needs of a young family.

I was touched and ending up grinning away at the proposal scene. Michelle's passion for education and female empowerment are strongly portrayed throughout. Feelings for certain other political figures aren't whitewashed. And the book also gives us a beautiful vision of a strong marriage of equals and vision of how to raise independent and intelligent young adults.

The political process of the American system is explained a little as Michelle discusses the elections her husband was involved in, quite an insight for someone across the pond. Even though we all of course know the results, I still felt the tension of the results.

Michelle Obama is a natural writer, and her story should inspire young people everywhere, across the gender/race spectrum. Your background, your origins shouldn't matter, she tells us, your will, desire to succeed and talent can take you where you want to go.

Fantastic listen, she's a wonder to listen to. Definitely a favourite autobiography.

If you are interested for a glimpse into her life...this book does not disappoint! Loved her perspectives in all the different phases of her life and especially regarding her children! This book is great and made me love her even more!

I loved how real and honest she was...it’s easy to get sucked into the glitz and glamour, and to wonder what all that is like. Michelle painted the picture beautifully for me....to be honest I laughed out loud when she talked about the crowds and the glitz and the extravagance, and how she just wanted to go to bed bc it was 2am! She totally got through to me! I think she will get through to you too!

Give it a try!
