I did not realize how badly my reader heart was craving an epic fantasy with a bad ass middle aged lady protagonist, but it was. I'm so glad this is a series because I want MORE. But it's also a complete story all on its own. 10/10, no notes, will definitely be a contender for top read of 2023.

Is it really a pirate story if there’s not a plot to steal your own ship back? Awesome, adventurous read. A little slow to start for me but I enjoyed the second half of the book immensely.

An absolutely delightful read, as I entirely expected. I did actually listen to the audiobook of this over a couple of days, instead of doing uni work, and I don't regret that for the world.

Once again Shannon Chakraborty has created such a vivid world and cast of characters, and I cannot wait to see what (mis)adventures Amina and her crew will get into in the future!

This is a fantastic book! The cast of characters is delightful and the heroes journey is well structured. The setting is a delightful mix of lovingly crafted real history and enchanting magical worldbuilding. Amina is a fantastic character and I really look forward to more of her adventures
