Ham on Rye is much better. This book made me want to quit my job though. (And maybe get drunk n be depressed about it lol)

Did not appreciate the violence against women, it was a hard read.

Totally meh. I don’t think that I can conjure a better two-worded phrase to sum up this book. As an enjoyer of Charles Bukowski’s poetry, Post Office was my first run of novel writing. It’s very much Bukowski-esque but too structureless for my liking. There’s really no strong plot; however, the way Bukowski subliminally progresses time is undeniably clever. It doesn’t help that the cover reads, “One of the funniest books I’ve ever written.” I didn’t laugh once while reading.

The fast-paced and easy-to-read nature helped me finish the book. Objectively, it’s not written poorly. Rather, it does nothing spectacularly, which makes me feel so ambivalent. I’ll likely never revisit this book, and if I do, it will be a long ways down the road.

The post office feels like a kafkaesque nightmarish place to work. This one felt like a manifestation of my anxieties of being trapped in a pointless dead end existence. I used to drink hard and force myself into work. Never really finding any purpose in life. This one kicked up the embers of my depression in a good way, I hope. A good story should make you feel something, even depressed. Print is Dead so buy this book for your shelf. It feels worth it to me.

Ha sido entretenido y una lectura de lo más curiosa, principalmente por el estilo del autor. Pero debo decir que no es mi tipo de novela y que sin duda Ben Brooks le está copiando.

A smart and highly misogynistic drunkard out to destroy himself (but tbf federal bureaucracy and its inane policies does drive you crazy). Is Bukowski always this casually violent to women or is this particular character supposed to be an “excuse” for awful behavior?

3.5 stars. I liked the book, but it all seemed repetitive, work, drink, gamble, fuck, repeat…maybe I missed something. Ham on rye was much more enjoyable.
