I would've given this four stars if a few more questions had been answered, but I fell in love with the setting and the believable characters.

I read this book back in high school and all I remember was really liking it. I recently acquired a copy from my amazing friend, so when I get around to re-reading it I will give it a proper review. c:

For me, it started off slow but gradually picked up and was a really good start to the trilogy.

This book surprised me, but in a good way. I went into this book thinking it was just gonna be OK and that I finally wanted to read it to get it off my shelf. Now while I know this book is not the next best and greatest thing it was still incredibly enjoyable. It was super fast-paced and every second that I wasn't reading this book left me wanting to read it. Now I know this book had many flaws, but I was able to over look them because I was just enjoying this so much. It was a quick and easy read that left me wanting more. I look forward to continuing on with the rest of this series.

I'm a huge fangirl of Kelley Armstrong, who writes PNR (paranormal romance) for adults. So when I saw she'd published a YA series, I was curious to see how it would differ.
The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong is the tale of 16-year-old Maya -- or at least it's the beginning of her tale.
Because as much as I adored Maya's character (for once a whip-smart, funny, and likable heroine so much unlike Bella Swan), I had a hard time grappling with the fact that I was essentially reading 25% or 33% of a story.
I love YA series, and I love cliffhangers. But I have really little patience with partially-told stories.
A full book's worth of story should establish expectations that it then follows up on. If it ends on a cliffhanger, that's fine, as long as the reader feels satisfied (if tense, and excited for the next installment) by the final page.
But with The Gathering, none of my expectations were met or fulfilled, and the abrupt, anticlimactic ending wasn't a cliffhanger so much as a "meh." It wasn't enough to lure me in to buying the next book (of which there are currently three).

I always enjoy Kelley Armstrong's books and this was no exception. Her YA novels are just as rich and captivating as her other books. I like the new storyline with Maya and the skinwalkers. Definitely fun to add a new race of supernaturals into the world that Armstrong has already built. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

First, wth?! That ending...really? That's it? I felt like someone just told me I won a million dollars and then said "just kidding" Ahhhhhh! Besides that fact, this book was awesome! This is my very first "Canadian" read and I felt like I understood everything soooo much better. I could literally picture my home-town reading it and it just felt so comfortable. Small little jokes with canadian humor etc.
From the very beginning I could already predict how everything was going to go. I instantly knew what would happen with Rafe and his sister, yet even though it was predictable, it never bothered me in the slightest. I love and hate Rafe all at the same time. It was so hot and cold that it irrated me. But, never really pissed me off.
This is my very first book by Kelley and I know im really going to love her other books. I understand I jumped ahead quite a bit in her series so now that I'm finished this, I will take a step back and start at the beginning of her [b:The Summoning|2800905|The Summoning (Darkest Powers, #1)|Kelley Armstrong|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327890699s/2800905.jpg|2451397], [b:The Awakening|5391115|The Awakening (Darkest Powers, #2)|Kelley Armstrong|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1267415929s/5391115.jpg|4115339], and [b:The Reckoning|6468666|The Reckoning (Darkest Powers, #3)|Kelley Armstrong|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327154591s/6468666.jpg|6659237] books.
Lastly, Daniel. I'm sorry but I always have to pick opposite sides of these "Men" triangles. Although Maya and him are best friends, and he was dating Serena (Maya's bestfriend) I truly, honestly want them to be together. There is so much history, honesty and grown love there that it would hurt to see them not...
