I listened to When the Air Hits Your Brain: Tales of Neurosurgery read by Kirby Heyborne, a favorite audiobook reader. I'm squeamish about medical stuff, but this wasn't at all off-putting. An interesting, surface-level glance into neurosurgery and neurological diseases.

I listened to this as an audiobook, and it was amazing. Such a great storytelling, and so many interesting cases. I couldn’t put this away. Definitely one of my new favorite books.

I feel like this book is a great read for anyone in healthcare. There was so much I related to as a health professional and it gave me so much insight into the life of a surgeon. There were times I laughed, times I cried, and times my stomach flipped and empathized with the author.
It’s not a book I would recommend for anyone to read. It might be too much for someone who finds medical things scary. The book isn’t overly graphic, but it does highlight very real, worst case, medical scenarios. So proceed with caution, especially if you are someone who can be paranoid about those sorts of things.

You know you're a science nerd when you can't wait to get in the car to listen to a book on neurosurgery. I loved this book. Parts made me laugh, one part in particular made me pull over I was crying so hard. I'm sure I'll listen to this one again.
I started this book with little expectations of what it had to offer. My pleasure of reading it grew more and more as I progressed through it. It is a very well written account of a journey of a neurosurgeon as he progressed from medical school all the way until he was a practicing neurosurgeon. Very interesting indeed, particularly of how many aspects of the practice of medicine, as well as medical training, changed drastically over time. How norms changed, dealing with many conditions changed, and how work hour limits of surgeons-in-training changed as well.
