I was enjoying this one but like with most short stories, the ending fell flat or just was underwhelming. Perhaps, that's not a word against Pushkin but more in accordance to my own expectations with short stories.

I had initially started in all the wrong places with Russian literature, especially given the fact that I was transitioning from British classics (which is miles apart in difference). I really want to warm up to Russian classics and this gave me glimmer of hope in the beginning :(

Read this after watching the opera... Hermann is still a freak but not nearly as Tchaikovsky made him out to be

No too sure how to rate this one. It's a collection of short stories by Pushkin, and although The Queen of Spades is a great story, its outshone by some of the others most notably
the tale of Dubrovsky
. However the stories are all gripping and paint a gorgeous, if violent and tumultuous, picture of rural Imperial Russia.

The absolute irony! and, of course, greed.
When the winning is expected, I think, man can lose common sense.
