I’m not typically one for historical fictions, but David Benioff (GOT) wrote a highly entertaining book about two Russian youths during WWII. They’re forced to deal with everything from Nazis to cannibals. Would recommend for anyone looking for a quick read. Also the audiobook is narrated by Ron Perlman, which was absolutely amazing.

A tragic, hilarious war story from an unlikely hero that's perfectly paced, City of Thieves is ultimately a story of resilience in the face of abject misery. Lev endures a series of harrowing experiences that shed light on just how dire the Siege of Leningrad was, but Benioff keeps it from getting incessant with well-balanced storytelling. Oftentimes, some newfound horror is punctuated with gallows humor or some levity, which makes it all the more noticeable when it isn't. This feels true -- death isn't a punchline, but it's the ultimate setup for one.
Now if only Benioff had put this much effort into the Game of Thrones ending.
