I didn’t love this book, but I certainly don’t hate it. There were parts I enjoyed and will remember, like the tense chess game, learning about The Courtyard Hound, and staying at Sonya’s apartment. Other aspects of the book were less endearing. Most of the humor didn’t land with me, and the hornyness got uncomfortable at times. The main character is a teenage boy, so I’m not saying it’s unrealistic, just not for me. I didn’t care for Kolya at first, and while he did grow on me, I still wasn’t a big fan by the end. Still worth reading for the setting alone.

One of those books that you can’t put down after you start.
The writing is incredible and the characters are soo lovable. Everything about it is perfect.

F-ing brilliant. Sorry to be so coarse, but that's exactly what I said aloud when I finished the book. Enthralling and horrifying and funny and just plain perfect.

I kind of had to force myself to get through the first half of the book but after that, I couldn't put it down. The second half was an emotional rollercoaster that I didn't want to get off of. If you can get through the slow first half, you won't regret it. Highly recommended.

Trying to get back into reading so chose this as my first book in years. Really enjoyed it. Short and sweet, a great adventure story about Lev & Kolya, whose relationship is so fun to read. David Benioff’s writing is fantastic. Kolya’s character is gonna stick with me for a long time
