I devoured this book! It was such a different premise from others I’ve read before, and it sucked me right in from the beginning. I also felt there were no real slow/unnecessary points of the story, IMO. Not sure how I feel about the ending, as well as the creepy age difference, which is why it didn’t get 5 stars, but still a solid read!

This is the third book I've read by Jodi Picoult and she has a gift with telling a tale. The book included Q&A for book club use and I learned that she spends months researching her topic before she writes a word and I think it pays off.
This book is about a newborn found dead in a barn on an Amish dairy farm and the young Amish girl who is accused of killing it. A distant cousin who is taking a break from her career as a successful defense attorney steps in to defend the girl.
The characters are well defined and the story moves swiftly. I have one itty-bitty gripe, but won't mention it to avoid ruining any of the book for other readers. (But if I meet Jodi one day ...)

This doesn't have the usual moral/ethical twist that Picoult usually includes. Frankly, although it's a page-turner, it's a pretty big letdown of a book. There are medical terminology errors (Gram's stain rather than Gram stain). There are ghosts, which makes absolutely no sense at all. The defense attorney seems rather clueless and like she prefers not to ask questions of her client. I figured out the twist about 1/3 of the way into the book and then it just dragged until the actual reveal of whodunit.
