i loved this so so so much!!!

i always love a good fake dating story and this one actually made sense and had everything i wanted! the tension, laughs, steam, everything.

evangeline was made for me i swear. she’s a smut lover and prefers reading about romances than trying to have any of her own. i connected with her so much. she’s a bit cynical when it comes to relationships but it makes sense once you know her backstory. however, that made her have a really interesting point of view that was distinct from dane’s.

dane was so fun! i liked the discussions around it being okay to not know what your gender/sexuality is. it made me feel really seen. i really felt for them when they were talking about their struggles with that and with their family not seeing them as anything but a deadbeat because they didn’t have a “typical career.”

but their relationship!!! it was so good! i loved the discussions around what the other person likes/doesn’t like and is comfortable with during sex because it made dane so much more safe and it’s really important to see those conversations happen. the amount of tension between the two was perfect, going from roommates who dislike each other to not being able to keep their hands off each other to being in love. you could really see it all play out and i felt like it went at the right pace to be believable.

the ending was also adorable and i loved how evangeline got closure with her parents and dane was able to follow their dreams of being a photographer!

thank you storyorigin for this arc in exchange for an honest review!

wow this was absolutely amazing, i loved every second of this. i read this all in about 2 hours because i could not put it down once i started reading. i was hooked from the beginning!

this story follows dane and evangeline who have been roommates for about two years but have to take date in order to keep their house. i LOVED the tension between them throughout the whole book, it was sosososo good. i also loved how this book talked about dane’s photography and evangeline’s veterinary schooling, it was so interesting to read about.

my favourite part tho had to be the characters. they were so funny and so cute together. i could feel how much they liked each other throughout the book and nothing felt forced to me. i was so invested in their relationship and i was rooting for them from the beginning. also it’s fake dating, how could i not love it?

overall, this was incredible. thank you to the author for an e-arc of this book!

ARC reviewer

This book. . . This book! Was everything I didn't know I needed. I believe I found a new favorite author and I kick myself for almost passing this book up.

Jonah - "We're sexy cows."

We jump right into a comical scene of Dane and Jonah doing a gig for cash. Involving inflatable cow suites. Dane is saving up to move back to Vancouver to pursue their photography business. Jonah is saving as well but for a personal surgery.

The two are best friends and do side jobs for cash. Dane is doing the side gigs in between photographing models. All they want is to pursue a career in photography much to their family's disapproval.

Except for one family member who supports them being non binary. Also wishing to see Dane pursue their dreams. Dane's aunt, ma tante. Tante Noelle who has happily provided Dane with a home. But there's a catch. A tyrannical roommate named Evangeline Hudson.

Evangeline has everything planned out right down to bathroom breaks. Not really, but she's extremely organized! Having several lists and organizational sheets. Her plan is to graduate and go to veterinary school. Living under Tante Noelle's roof because rent is cheap and the house is like one from a fairy tail.

Dane was not part of the plan. Having constant squabbles with them. Since Dane doesn't fully listen or follow the chore charts. Both of them keeping proper distance. Despite Tante Noelle trying to get them together.

Noelle's purpose, being a matchmaker. Only Evangeline and Dane are refusing to believe such a thing. Soulmates? Them? But after Noelle announces possibly handing the house over to one of Dane's "lovely" cousins. . . The two need to come up with a plan. Otherwise they will be asked to leave.

Neither of them care for each other. Being complete opposites and having to overcome their pasts. But the two agree on not wanting to leave the walk-up in Montreal. Putting aside differences.

This is a romantic comedy. Full of laughs, cheesy romantic moments, and some tears. Dane is non binary but they are still trying to fully understand that and what it means to them. Evangeline is a lesbian but she's rather open and understands that her orientation may change.

This book hit me very close to home. I just wanted to hug Dane honestly. I can very much relate to them and I am so glad I was able to read this book! I was crying because it was an emotional read for me. Relating to Dane and just their character.

I also very much loved that Evangeline is a big time reader! Reading or listening to books and reviewing them. To the point of Dane saying:

"Oooh, Evangeline! Spaghetti and fairy porn sounds like a great Saturday night."

I mean? Carbs and smutty books? Yes please!

This was a long review but I loved this read so much. I could honestly keep going on about this read. But I don't want to spoil anything or ruin the first time of reading the book through.

Looking forward to more books from Katia. Enjoy the read and give the author some stars!

i love this book so much! the character dynamics! the relationship development! the tropes!!!

this book made me feel a lot of things and it was so nice to read. it has all the tropes that i love actually: fake dating, close proximity, only one bed, flirty banters, the tension!!!!!!! so so nice. i wish i could write a coherent review. i don't like the book cover tho it didn't do them justice at all.

the description of every scene and character is so vivid it felt like i was watching a movie. i don't have much complaint because i truly enjoyed reading this book. the dual pov is nice too, because it made us know what the other character is feeling or thinking and i like that. my only wish is that it was longer. i was surprised i finished it so fast.

might read more from this author since this is the first book i've read from them!!! 💛
