Uma cozy fantasy que cumpre tudo o que promete. Uma historia tranquila, divertida, com pitadas certas de conforto e alívio cômico, e com um plot central que te mantem no mínimo necessário pela curiosidade de continuar.
Pelo proposito de ser uma cozy fantasy, creio que as coisas se solucionam muito rápido ou de uma facilidade grande demais, não chega a incomodar tanto, mas perde um pouco da emoção ao atingir o sucesso do objetivo final.
Tao é uma otima personagem, descobrir seu passado e o porque ela se coloca como uma leitora de APENAS pequenas sortes é o ponto alto do livro e tem um pouco de emocionante ali.
Apesar disso, creio que tantos os outros personagens aqui foram subaproveitados. Continuarei lendo livros da autora. A Vibe é excelente. Mas não chega a ser perfeitamente amarradinhos como acontece em Café e Lendas ou com a Sociedade Supersecreta de Bruxas Rebeldes.

It took me a little bit to get to this book and I was not sure if it was the kind of book I would like since it is a bit more of a cozy fantasy. But this book was really endearing and despite a very simple plotline it was really engaging as well. The story follows a Shinn fortune teller named Tao who only tells small fortunes and travels the roads between cities practicing her trade. Along her travels she has to deal with people being unwelcoming because of her race and they are also suspicious of her magic. She meets Mash and Silt along her travels and learns that Mash is searching for his lost daughter who disappeared a few months prior. These three also pick up a fourth companion, Kina, who is a baker with some questionable looking baked goods but they taste delicious! They pick up a few animal companions along the way too! As a group they travel the country in search of news about Mash’s daughter Leah and try to avoid the Guild who are searching for magic users like Tao, to utilise their skills in an upcoming war.

Cozy fantasy is a tough one for me. Finding a balance between an interesting storyline and the relaxed low stakes you find in cozy fantasy is a hard task and as a result they often fall flat for me. A couple that I have liked a lot more in the past include books like Legends and Lattes, TJ Klune’s books and Discworld. I think this one does a pretty good job of finding that balance. The stakes are high enough that I stayed interested in the story and invested in the characters. For a cozy fantasy, this one has a bit of a more serious tone and brushes up against some hard topics. I read this book really fast and gave it a 3.5 out of 5.
