So, on one hand, I really hate that this series is a trilogy. There is SO MUCH going on.
On the other, I love that it's a trilogy, it's covering a specific time (Isobel's road apprenticeship) and it was a great ride.

This book was easily my favorite. Isobel has so many questions. She (and we) both learn so much, and are left with more questions. The world is roiling and she has to find a solution to a problem she doesn't understand/can't figure out, and honestly probably can't fix forever.

I hated the ending. I loved the ending. Kudos to the author.

This third book of The Devil's West series drew me right back in to the world of Isobel and Gabriel, but visiting a new region. The underlying magical element is quite prevalent, but still elusive and mysterious and intriguing. I have really enjoyed watching Isobel grow and learn to use her authority and her gifts. Gabriel remains more of an enigma, and I look forward to his novella, which follows this story.

Every bit as good as the first two. We learn more about Isobel's abilities, and the Territory, and see how fragile the Agreement may actually be.

This is a review of the trilogy as a whole. It is an interesting alternate history/magical historical realism type tale that almost but doesn't completely deliver on its promises. But it delivers on enough of them that it is still well worth the read.

Though this is the end of the trilogy, I hope we see more of Isobel in the future. I really enjoyed the world that the author has created.

This was such a great series. I did feel like it ended a bit...abruptly? I'm not sure that's the right word, but it seemed like it should have circled back in some way and it didn't.

As much as I enjoyed reading this book, and I did enjoy it very much, it didn't end so much as stop. All the questions I entered the final book of the trilogy with went unanswered and the central challenge of this book wasn't resolved.

Fascinating world and engaging characters, though.
