Meh. The slow burn turned into a complete drag. The coded feminist, anti-patriarchy, anti-misogyny, female rage undertones were at conflict with one another, and just felt tropey in the end. Would not recommend. 🙄

Excellent folk horror with genuinely unsettling imagery and beautiful use of nature as a conduit for terror.

this is a slower paced horror but twisted, putrid, violent and curious. i loved that i felt such a range of emotions about the narrator without feeling she was unreliable. ada byrd was written so completely whole, so dangerous, lovely and yet vile… what a book. the ending was terrible but delicious. a perfect pride month read!
