I read the book cover to cover, despite finding myself about two thirds through the book not finding the main character to be likable at all. There is a reason for that, I think, but no matter that, I’m still not here for her. Overall, I did like this book and it kept me wondering and interested.

My second 5 star read of 2025! I was hooked from start to finish; I think I finally found the kind of horror I actually love to read!

Loved the slow descent (ascent?) of Ada, on her journey to meet the grey dog.

I read this with my horror book club and really enjoyed it. This book is embodiment of the “Feminine Rage” theme. It’s a slow burn that (honestly) dragged a bit for the first 50-60%, but then starts to gain a little more momentum. The prose is beautiful and very atmospheric. Overall, I loved the heavy symbolism riddled throughout the story and the delivery of the themes… so many themes!! Here’s a few: Feminine rage, catharsis, empowerment, breaking the chains of patriarchy, rewilding the human beast.

I think the more I sit with this book the more I will like it. It’s not what I expected but I like that it kept me guessing and has its own voice. It is unique and has a lot of themes and ideas to chew on.

This is one of the most unexpectedly incredible books I've read in a long time. Was just reading to fill in a lapse between books, but I cannot believe how fantastic it is!
Love the prose, love the language of the day. Such a good story.
