This book took me a minute to get into, but once I was there, I flew through it. I hate even saying that I enjoyed this so much because it centers around a heavy topic.
I have heard many people say this is the darkest book they’ve ever read and I’m sure that’s true for some, but it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting.. so either I’m a total psychopath with no feelings or people just don’t read dark thrillers typically. There was maybe one or two scenes, I skimmed through because I couldn’t stomach it. (IYKYK)
Overall, I found it interesting and informative (lots of background and facts on trauma, PTSD, Stockholm syndrome, etc) so my former Behavioral-Specialist self was enjoying all the info.
I usually don’t enjoy duel timeline books either, but for this book it just made sense and I appreciated it being written that way.

This was a very sad book to read, specially because it can happen in real life.

I love lucinda berrys writing, i have read most of her books now apart from missing parts. I have found this one has to be darkest read yet (please check trigger warnings) and it was struggle to put down. Very engaging storyline and It was super fast paced.
I loved the 2 girls pov ella& sarah but i think it would of been great to have pov of the john and paige also.
I recommend lucinda berrys books ( please check trigger warnings)

i think this genre of… what? true crimecore? exploitation paperback? (calling it a thriller feels tame) needs to be studied because there’s probably some really interesting gender theory going on with most authors and readers of the genre being women. i always end up reading these in under 24 hours and i can’t help but wonder what about my psyche compels me and others to do so. anyways, it’s hard to rate books like this so do with that what you will.
