"The quintessential lost boy. Don't worry, Peter Pan, I'll be your Wendy."

- high school romance
- angsty
- good girl x "bad" boy
- slow burn
- dual pov
- check TWs

Saving 6 takes place before Binding 13. We meet Aoife and Joey on their first day of high school (hello, iconic meet cute), and I like seeing their friendship develop into something more over several years. There's banter and fights and heartbreak and heartwarming moments scattered throughout.

Aoife is a character. She's charming, confident, relatable, and incredibly supportive of Joey, even when he pushes her away. She will always get my vote for standing by him and pushing him to be better—not for her but for him. She loses a point for not ditching Paul sooner, though 😅.

"Because you might not love yourself, but I do. I love you enough for the both of us."

In contrast, Joey knows how to bring the heartbreak. Chloe writes his character in a way that makes it difficult not to feel for him throughout the book, wanting to reach in and shake him but also protect him. She puts him through the wringer, and we all know the worst is yet to come!

Like its predecessors, Saving 6 features humour and lighter moments to balance the heavier topics. But please check TWs before diving in.

"What have I gotten myself into?"
"The best relationship of your life."

“The quintessential lost boy.” Her lips grazed mine as she spoke. “Don’t worry, Peter Pan, I’ll be your Wendy.” ✨

Okay, so one thing about me is that I detest flashbacks. I understand their necessity in providing character backstories, but I’m more of an “in the moment” person. Unfortunately, this entire book serves as Joey and Aoife’s backstory, and I must admit, I’m not particularly invested in it. I don’t feel like the characters significantly developed after reading this book, and frankly, I’m ready to get to the present day.

Sometimes, a book just doesn’t hit the mark, and unfortunately, this was one of those times for me. I’m giving it a 1 star, and I wish I could say I cared for it more, but I just couldn't get past the cringy depiction of teenagers acting like grown-ups. Perhaps it’s because I was a bit of a prude growing up, but the amount of spice these high schoolers were experiencing felt wildly inappropriate and off-putting.

I actually DNF'd the book but decided to push through for the sake of reading the last book in the series, which focuses on a character I really like. Sadly, I’m now dreading the possibility of having to trudge through the next book as well. Joey and Aoife, the central couple in this story, have a relationship that is beyond toxic. Aoife is extremely annoying, and if my daughter ever behaved like she did with her boyfriend, I’d want to curl up in a ball and DIE!

The smut was just too much for me to handle, and it completely overshadowed any potential redeeming qualities of the plot. The portrayal of these teenagers in such mature and explicit situations was cringy and uncomfortable, making the whole reading experience rough.

This book was a miss for me. If you're looking for a story with relatable characters and a healthy dose of realism, you might want to look elsewhere. However, if you're keen on completing the series like I am, brace yourself for a challenging read.

This series is such an emotional rollercoaster that you need to stick with it because you really want to see the light. These characters, it’s really hard to not be invested. This book focuses on Joeys story and he was the backbone to the dysfunctional family he belonged to. Support and protecting his siblings from his alcoholic and abusive father is a lot for a young 17 year old to be responsible for.

This is heavy in so many more ways than the first 2 because everything and every moment is covered in a shadow. The only saving grace is you knew a lot of the foundation from book one and two.

Over the years you see Joey and Aoife form & share a friendship that turns into an all consuming love for each other. Ther love is powerful, devestating, toxic, healing & beautiful. They definitely had moments where you wanted to yell at both of them for their choices and toxicity in many ways.

Sad girl book take three! I have to read this series with week’s in between each due to the heaviness they bring. I’m so glad we are getting to see these events through Joeys and his perspective as well as seeing his story.

If you want your heart rolled out and put back together, then this series is for you
