I remember loving Emily Giffin’s books over a decade ago and this popped up on my Libby app. The play on words in the title was interesting and had me intrigued to follow the story in the book. I think there were good ideas for the plot but they just weren’t executed well. Things just felt kind of thrown together for the sake of it. 

It did leave me wanting to watch First Wives Club from ages ago since the concept reminded me of the way the women in that movie came together following a friend’s tragedy. I think because I loved that movie so much this book was compared to that in my mind.

Great beach read and while it had its lighthearted moments, it covered serious topics so check trigger warnings going in.

dnf..the plot and characters started out so strong but at around 80% it’s just taken a turn. The romance feels forced, rushed and too physically focused. when I say “too physically focused” I mean that imo, there’s a lack of true love shown and the inner dialogue we are given is solely about physical attraction. not my cup of tea to say the least.

also just a side note, I went in thinking this was a summer book, as in summer the season, but it’s actually titled “The Summer Pact” after one of the characters ahaha
