I'm not saying it was bad but the plot felt a little boring and it didn't have to be so dragged out tbh.

This is an interesting, well written book. The prose is poetic and evocative - you can easily imagine the world that Summers is writing about. The characters are also clearly defined & well rounded.

I hate to make the comparison, but to me this book feels like the younger sibling of one of my favorite novels, Erin Morgenstern's The Starless Sea. It easily stands in its own right, but my memories of Starless Sea just kept creeping in through my read of this one. I liked the characters alright, some of them could have used a bit more work but I deeply loved Violet and her journey. There is a wondrous world in here, but I think I would have liked it a bit more with more of the world-building and adventure with a bit less of the character stories. Still, I enjoyed it!

This is everything The Night Circus wants to be. Very well written with a well thought out plot and a fresh take on magic and mythology. Very movie-like, and while all of the time skipping was somewhat frustrating at first, by the end it made sense for the story and added to the movie-like vibe.

I will say that I wouldn't call this a romance. Romance is a very thin slice of what this is,  even as it plays as a major piece of the back drop. More romance would have worked really well, but it also would have changed the style of the narrative. Just a warning -- if you're reading this for the romance, this isn't it. I can count on like, one hand the amount of romantic interactions that the FMC and MMC have.

Still, I'm eager to read more from this exceptionally talented author.
