I'm not usually a historical fiction reading girl, but I liked this one a lot. it was fun and fast-paced!
This book was full of adventure and kept me on my toes. I feel there should be a second book due to the ending, but I'm glad I got to read it. The book has an Appendix in which you can look up the ship parts and figure out the time. I thought it was an incredible feature. Overall, I would recommend this book for anyone who is looking for something good to read.
A wonderful classic. Read it as a kid and just finished reading it to my kids. Just as wonderful and meaningful now as it was then.

I read this a while ago but it was fantastic! Don't judge it by it's cover. I loved it, amazing, amazing amazing. Will probably read it again..
Okay so maybe it was okay but not all that great. *cough cough Marina* I mean, it was just fine. If not a little boring at some times.
One of my all time favorites. I’ve read this book no less than 6 times and every time I love it more.
13 year old Charlotte sets sail in the 1830's on a ship from England headed home to Rhode Island. She is without a chaperone and the ship ends up being a merchant vessel. She is a girl of "proper upbringing" and is way out of her element in this situation. She is befriended by Zachariah, an older black man on the boat. When he ends up beaten, she's upset and disguises herself as a crew member thinking she can make a difference. She ends up in the midst of a mutiny and is even accused of murder! Charlotte has a lot of spunk, and I love Zachariah in this book. Great morale as she learns to not judge people only by what you see!
This story just didn't cut it in my book. The plot seemed difficult to follow, the characters were good and bonafide, all real, but I just couldn't follow the plot! I'm sorry, Avi, but this one just didn't work out. A lot of the other stuff you write is way better than this, in my opinion, but with this review of "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle", I am not meaning to bring anyone down, just so you guys know.
