This novel is one of the best historical fiction, high-seas adventures for young adult readers. It’s not every day a young lady finds herself on a voyage that has her become part of the crew of a ship, "Accused of murder and brought to trial."
I loved this story and I think you will too.

I read this so many times as a preteen. It was absolutely one of my favorite books back in those days. It had adventure, excitement, even a couple of scenes that were just plain terrifying. This was Pirates of the Caribbean before those movies were a thing. Kids will love this. (And as an adult, if you're looking for a quick and mindless read, you probably will, too.)

A sea adventure! With a girl main character! Awesome! I think this is one of the first strong-girl-historical-fiction books that I read, and I was blown away. I love books about the sea, and this one stars a girl. It was the perfect book for me.

This book was first read to me in roughly late elementary school. I reread the book on recommendation and though the prose were well written and the story well-paced, I found much of the characterization and some plot points to be pushing the limits of believability. It was certainly an entertaining book, but at my current reading level I found myself questioning many aspects of the story. And given Charlotte's own warning of high seas tales, I feel that at least it's in line with the story.

I'd recommend the book to younger readers or older readers who just want a well-paced plot and a little mystery and don't mind the historical inaccuracies.

I got this on CD for a long car trip and I LOVED it. Very exciting plot.

So far it's vair interesting and a fun read.

A great adventure story with a likable heroine and a great cast of characters.

An 1830s adventure in which a teenage girl sails from Liverpool to America without her family. She is accused of murder and it changes her life. Good read.

This is my favourite book EVER! It is really aimed at a sort "tweenager" age group, but don't let that put you off. Also,I think it is probably going to speak mostly to female readership. I first read it as a 10 yr old girl and it blew me away. To the point that when I finished it, I turned to the beginning and immediately started it again.
Its a very adventurous, transformative, and generally bad ass story about a girl on a voyage between america and England, who has to find a way to survive when the crew essentially mutiny.
Its really fabulous.
