This book was so good, but in that way that breaks your heart. I hate that Elliot had to deal with everything he has and didn’t always have people around him to make him feel safe. I’m so happy that he had the courage to write this book and that it has become so popular. It’s so important and empowering to hear queer and trans voices. This is just one trans person’s story, but hearing the joy and relief in his voice when he talked of being out and surgery gives me hope for others, that they feel safe enough to be themselves as well.

I feel like it’s almost impossible not to give a memoir 5 stars, simply because it is someone else’s life experience, and how am I to judge that? But this one was very good. It highlights the importance of being kind to everyone, especially those in the LGBT+ community. I enjoyed hearing Elliot narrate his own audiobook because I could hear the emotions in his voice throughout the book.

As a queer woman coming to terms with my identity in my 30s, this book really spoke to me. I wish there was a more organized chronology to the chapter organization, but overall an incredible book that taught me that loving yourself is a beautiful, powerful force to be reckoned with.
