Glad I read this and heard his story, it’s important to try and understand the experience of gender dysphoria
The plot structure was a little haphazard and I found the writing to shift back and forth from lyrical and descriptive nature notes to somewhat explicit imagery jarring.

It could be that this was too much like looking in a mirror for comfort, but I genuinely had trouble with the way this was laid out. The constant time jumping and no linear format didn’t work for me personally. I read a lot of memoirs and biographies, this one…missed the mark.
I do like and admire Elliot though

The 5 stars are for trans voices.
This was a hard book for me to read because it was all over the place. It should have been called "I digress a memoir" just random events throughout his lifetime written as the memories materialise in his mind without any regard to a linear timeline.

An incredibly raw book that shows the complexity of coming to terms with yourself.
One thing I liked about the writing was the brutal honesty and the push/pull tension. There was a real sense of reaching a moment of clarity then retreating.
Whilst it’s not an experience I can fully ever understand, I think most of us can empathise with coming to terms with elements of ourselves we’ve been told aren’t ideal.
Perhaps that, plus Page’s easy writing style made this so gripping for me.

I looked forward to reading this as a fellow trans person. Much of Page’s experiences are heartbreaking and downright engaging. I gave this book 3 stars because for me, it felt like it was written in a scatterbrained sort of fashion, which made it a little difficult to keep up with which part of his life he’s talking about.

Haiku Book Review:
I loved to read this.
People are complicated,
People are themselves.
