can you really rate this anything other than 5 stars?

i need to get myself a personal copy. so i can cry. and prepare.
and i need to go hug my mom. for a really long time.

personal note: my biggest and most monstrous form of doomsday anxiety revolves around my mom and the idea of losing her. attempting to start this sent me into a spiral, of course, being it’s my biggest trigger. i’m going to see this as a form of exposure therapy and take a cue from Mama Suzy:
“When you’re terrified, ask yourself: Is this helping? If not, laugh in fear’s face.”

What to Do When I'm Gone: A Mother's Wisdom to Her Daughter is an extraordinarily beautiful and poignant book that feels like a warm embrace from a mother, offering timeless advice and life lessons. The author, Suzy Hopkins, has created a heartfelt and deeply personal guide that is both comforting and empowering. What stands out the most in this book is how it bridges generations—offering a mother's practical advice and her emotional insights. The wisdom shared touches on everything from self-care to relationships, to navigating life’s inevitable hardships. Every page is filled with such tender, loving guidance, that it feels as though you're being spoken to directly by someone who knows you deeply and wants nothing more than to see you thrive.
I loved the small, intimate feel of the book—each section feels like a conversation between mother and daughter. The advice is not only thoughtful but often infused with a sense of humour and grace. It’s a book you can return to time and again, finding new meaning and comfort with each read. Whether you’ve lost your mother or are fortunate enough to still have her, this book will resonate deeply. It’s a beautiful reminder of the wisdom that mothers pass on, and it’s filled with enough love and care to make anyone feel cherished. It’s an absolute gem—one that I will keep close to my heart.
I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to feel a little closer to the nurturing, wise, and loving voice of a mother. A perfect gift for any daughter, no matter their age.
My Rating - 5 shining stars

Hopefully I won't need this book for a long time, but the artist's fears are very relatable. I saw this at the library and had to check it out - I had first heard about it somewhere I forget but it had grabbed my interest. The book is beautifully done and had plenty of light humor thrown in to help prevent you from bawling your eyes out, which fortunately I narrowly avoided. If you have a close relationship with your mom, whether she's still around or not, I definitely recommend this book.

I lost my mom a year and a half ago. This graphic novel composed by a mother and daughter is spot on. It's touching but has laugh out loud moments. I'd recommend it to any child whose had some time to process their parent's passing. It would have been very difficult to read immediately after the death of a parent.

This book was so good. It had me going through so many emotions. Grief, sadness, humor, it had it all. And the recipes!! I’m definitely making all those recipes. This is definitely a book that everyone should read, it captures so many aspects of life and loss and finds a relatable way to help cope with it. I also quite enjoyed the illustrations. I’ll be gifting this to a few people.
