I choked up quite a bit reading this, and thinking of how my life would be when the people close to me pass. I need to hug more people in my life.

The idea behind this book is simple, but it's the message that really hits home. No matter what your parental situation is, it's challenging to tackle the emotions that come to the surface when you imagine what it means when your parents aren't around anymore. This book explores one mother who is guiding her daughter through the grieving process. What to make for dinner, who to confide in, what adventures to take, what to do with yourself. Parents are so often the ones that help us through the hard things, but their own death isn't something they'll ever be able to support you in. I liked the idea that this was something therapeutic and exploitative for both the mother and the daughter.
This book was exactly what I needed right now. My mom died over twenty years ago but I've been missing her something fierce lately. This book feels like a hug.
This wasn't quite what I was expecting, mainly because . The illustrations are fantastic (I especially love how the main "character" ages), if, in my opinion, not diverse enough, and the text was mostly pleasant enough to not wipe me out with grief - with a few exceptions. !
Spoiler
I don't think this is an actual spoiler, but I expected the book to cover maybe the first year or two after a mother's death, not a lifetime - but it's a great choice!

This book made me smile and chuckle. I know I’m going to reread it and it’s going to hit me differently. I’m thankful it’s been written.
