Six Years

Harlan Coben

3.59 AVERAGE

I wasn't convinced that everything added up in the end, but it was not horrible.

A bit of a stretch with the true love bit, but engrossing story.

This book was fantastic.
A suspenseful thriller that kept me guessing the whole way.
I raced through this book. I couldn't wait to find out how it all ended.

My UMass friends will be happy to see a lot of Amherst in the fictional college town of Lanford. Especially Judie's restaurant with its famous popovers and apple butter and Barselotti's bar where the author worked as a bouncer in his Amherst College days.

This counts as a book with a number in the title for the 2015 PopSugar Reading Challenge.

Accidental reread.

Six Years by Harlan Coben is an overall enjoyable book. It was a quick read, thanks in part to the flow of the book. The author created a likeable character with a likeable voice and made the storytelling seem as if you were directly involved in a conversation with the Character.
I place it under the "page-turner" category because I kept picking it up just to find out what happeend to the main character Natalie. Once, the pieces began to fall into place, the pace slowed for me and the mystery ended.

Overall I would recommend it as a good thriller, and a good work from the author. I look forward to reading more.

My new favorite author!

On the plus side, this was an easy read. It is essentially a romance novel with mystery/suspense thrown in. The opening of the novel was intriguing, but there were too many unbelievable plot twists in it- nothing about it was plausible to me. I have not read anything else by this author. It seems others who like his books are disappointed in this one, so I might try another one by this author.

Major spoilers ahead! I rated this a three star because the pacing was good and it kept me interested. However, this is not close to one of Harlan Coben's best books. When I reached the end of the book, I felt like Jake watching Natalie marry someone else - jilted. First, I don't recall there being any explanation as to why Todd agreed to the marriage. That's a huge risk for someone with a family to be taking. Second, why on earth did he use his real name?? Jake was not the only one at that wedding...if *anyone* connected had started looking into things, it would have been all downhill. Considering the lengths this "Fresh Start" goes to, it seems like a really dumb move. Third, why would Natalie put her real will and testament in Todd's safety deposit box?!? You don't leave any connections! It's like Rule 101, no matter how small the risk is. Girl, get your own safety deposit box. Oh and here's one I just thought of: It seemed that the MM knew Natalie's real name (since the thieves recognized her name and that she was the one the MM was looking for). So...why didn't they kill her family? Or torment them for information?

But I could have overlooked all that, if it were not for this: Everything that happens in this book is because Natalie falls in love while she's training to disappear. She KNEW she was going to have to disappear, that was literally why she was there, and she chose to string Jake along, then had to drag poor Todd into things to clean up her mess. She is responsible for all the bad things that happened!! I don't know about anyone else reading this book, but I am not okay with that.

That being said, I'm off to read my next Coben book. Hopefully it suits me better!

I couldn't wait for my last book to end, and I have to say that again about this book. This time it was because I wanted to find out what the HECK was going on! This book was easy to get into, right from the beginning. I was hooked right from the very first page, and the action never stopped. I have two minor complaints. The first is the overuse of -- yes, I eventually got used to it -- em dashes. The second complaint is that I bought a hard cover book, and only got three nights of entertainment from it. Ok, so that last one isn't really a complaint. I tried to tell myself to slow down and savor the story, but then my addictive personality voice told me to keep reading in every possible spare moment. I figure if I'm going to be addicted to something, books are a pretty good choice. And by the way, books like "Six Years" will never cure me of my reading addiction.
