ended up really loving this one! took about 1/4 of the book to wrap my head around the world/concept which is slower than I usually like, but the second half made it worth the wait

A little "Giver" vibes mixed with "Soul" mixed with absolute perfection.

Ardenis Watcher Fater is a fantastic protagonist who Hamblin did a masterful job following through his emotional awakening. In Acantha, emotions are forbidden. If a citizen becomes "compromised" they are forced to be Born into the "real world", Thera.

I feel like Hamblin did an amazing job balancing world-building with character-building. Because of Ardenis' newly compromised state, we gained insight into how Acantha operated pre- and post- his awakening in a way that felt natural and not forced.

Likewise, as Ardenis' emotions grew stronger, we saw both his own development as well as his friends' stagnation kept without emotions. It was an interesting change from other books where all characters grow and develop simultaneously. It was as if Bram, Laida, and the rest were in stasis while Ardenis' was changing.

I also loved the narrative that took place in Thera, which we only got to see through Arden's eyes as a Watcher. It somehow gave it even more importance as he gained emotions through watching Eva, Damian, Issac, etc.

I'm going to end my review here before I get into spoilers, but if you are looking for a new YA fantasy that focuses on characters, the world, and unrequited love, this should absolutely be your next read.

Not what I thought It would be. It's takes time to enter and I didn't really loved the universe proposed by the autor

Wow! Did I enjoy this book?! The only reason it didn’t receive 5 stars was because I feel that her writing needs a little bit of work, but as for the storyline and plot? 5/5! I loved reading this book and getting to know the characters and the world and their respective stories and can’t wait to read the next book. I’m really curious to see what she has planned for the next part of the story.
