The ONLY reason I have given this book 4 stars is because it took me about 3 chapters to wrap my head around the world and what was going on.
TRUST ME. Stick with it. It was a page turner that had me absolutely hooked. I was sent this book as an ARC but the second I finished it, I immediately bought the second book.
I promise you won’t regret reading this series.

What are we if we cannot feel emotion?
Let me preface with saying I adore books that take a new look at pre-mortality, life and the world after death. Fathed Born brought to us a new way to view the subject and reframed some things/terms that I grew up with being a part of certain religious beliefs. That being said this book is in no way religious, there is no mention of a God or holy power, simply how mortals come to be and where souls come from.
I loved every page, watching the watchers balance neutrality and mortal influence was mesmerizing and I cannot wait to dive into the next book.
I will say if you arent as invested in anyone other than Ardenis, you could stop with just Fated Born but I hardly see how you could not be just as invested on life beyond Acantha.

This book was recommended to me by a Facebook group and I’m so glad it was! To be honest, at first I wasn’t sure if I liked the concept, but the more I read the more I was obsessed with the story! The unique point of view really made me think about the world and life. The forbidden emotions, love, etc! It was so phenomenal. It personally pulled me out of a book slump, to which I will forever be thankful of!!
Once I finished the book I immediately started book 2!

A Watchers Love
This was an interesting story with fantastic world building. There are two storylines going on with Arden the watcher observing Thera and the life of Lady Eva. There’s a complex layering of those who aren’t to understand emotion in the life before birth and the passionate reality of emotions after birth.
The only thing that I struggled with was fully diving into either storyline because as soon as it would start to happen the we would flip back to the other one. Damien and Eva’s love was passionate and I had high hopes for the King until the end. I’m definitely interested in seeing where this goes next!
Emotional rollercoaster: I laughed, cried, hated it, loved it, and was confused. But you BETTER BELIEVE I am on to the next book!

Okay, so this was an INCREDIBLE introduction to this series. I would like to thank the author for the ARC opportunity prior to beginning the review. Now, I had never read a book told solely from the MMC POV, so this was new for me. I was so used to it being told from the FMC POV or Dual POVs, however, it did not affect my reading experience or the opinion I ended up with on this book. Also, the world building is so well done, so it is not overwhelming at ALL.
This story was full of pining and yearning. Of heartbreak that hurt so bad and yet also hurt so GOOD. The fantastical world created by the author is so intriguing. Whenever you think you know what is happening and are guessing at the possible plot twist, BOOM! You're taken on a completely different path, and yet it is executed beautifully. Ardenis was such a great character to read about and go through this journey with. Especially his growth throughout this book, especially emotionally! I am looking forward to see what is next for him. And after that ending? I can't even begin to guess at what is to come but I am SO ready for it. Please give this book a chance. You will enjoy going on this journey with Ardenis and the others. I don't want to go into the other characters because I feel like everything I want to say will contain spoilers. But, yes, I wholeheartedly recommend this book! Read it. You will NOT regret it!

Ardenis is probably my favorite protagonist in any fantasy so far. I love how he embraces his emotional awakening and the plot has consistency. It was a wonderful introduction to a new world and neither the introduction nor the ending feel rushed and underwhelming. The character description was beautifully done and got me hooked on the ways of the Acanthians.
Most of all, the book is from the MMC POV, which is rare in fantasy books and I absolutely loved every bit of it. Can't wait to read the next book!
