I enjoyed this book and it was the first one I have picked up from this author. I found the story interesting and the characters were engaging...although sometimes frustrating. I am looking forward to the next book of this series to see what happens next for these two. If you're looking for a paranormal with romance and vampires, check this one out.
I wanted to love this book.. I love everything Linde writes but this one just did not work for me. There were a few things that just bothered me. One, I can't stand when a male calls a female little one. My grandpa calls me little one.. so that just freaks me out. Two, I did not like Reyna. I think she was brave for stepping up and doing something that terrified her so she could take care of her family. That is fantastic. But I HATED how she kept throwing herself at Becks. It was embarrassing. Becks straight up told her he was seeing someone else and Reyna thought it was totally fine to be like NO you want me! She just rubbed me the wrong way.
Now there are things that I really did love about the book. I loved the world building and I loved the society. I think it was interesting and very well written. I want to know what happens next. I really do. I hope Reyna grows up a bit though.. and I hope Becks can keep being honest.
I received a copy of this book from the author.

Ya I read this book in like one day and I'm ashamed. (ok, maybe I'm not because the story line was decent and addicting and I'm definitely reading the others in the series because it ended with a cliffhanger). Now I have to read a literary classic in order to cleanse myself of this sin.

3.5ish to a 4, rounded up because I enjoyed the smut. (It is definitely openly smutty but more of a slow burn and packed in towards the end.)
I don't know if I'm being harsh because I adore The Ascension series so much and this so far definitely paled in comparison for me, but they aren't rated all that differently overall on GR so it's probably more that this one is more urban fantasy in feel, which I already do tend to be more critical about.
It is very typical urban fantasy in feel, especially urban fantasy involving vampires. Not a whole lot actually happens in the first half to 75ish% of the book. It does have that whiplash romance feel to it which is also just so not my favorite thing (and comparing it to the Ascension series again where I *know* KA Linde can write romance without that whiplash feel i might be just being harsh for this one as it isn't as bad as many other similar types by any means.)
I feel like it is still pretty well written and for the genre and tropes etc going on, it is a solid middle ground. Not the worst by any means, but for me wouldn't be the best. I'm definitely going to give book 2 a read because I am curious enough to see where it is going to go, but it might end up a DNF or "table for later" read for me.
Obligatory, again, I tend to have a hard time with most urban fantasy in general, and seem to rate the genre like the "harshest" for anything I rate. Do with that what you will.

Fun cringe. Perfect but poor main character who gets swept up to the richest and most handsome vampire ever. She's constantly getting attack because of how beautiful she is - even though she thinks she's plain and doesn't want to dress glamorously and only wants to help her family and the poor. The Best Man (vampire) Ever always saves her. She's constantly stating that she can take care of herself but is always needing saved, is tricked and intimidated by everyone around her, and rarely makes decisions for herself. If she does, don't worry she'll change her mind. The subplots around a race/class war is terrible, the writing the terrible, but its just the right amount of fantasy that makes it a guilty pleasure

It would get a 3.75 without the added rebellion drama.
Blood Type is a well-written, interesting story of a world where vampires are in control and most humans are living in poverty unless they're willing to submit to those in power. The story is fast-paced and filled with danger, betrayal, intrigue, and even some steamy moments for our main characters. All of this should have easily made this one a four or even five star read and I did enjoy a lot of those things. However, my problems lay with the characters and their so-called romance. So much about Beckham and Reyna is a bit too close to Twilight - he's the brooding vampire, determined to stay away from the weak human but just can't seem to do that, and she's the stubborn human whose blood smells way too good, and she seems to have an uncanny knack for running headlong into danger with no regard to the consequences, almost in spite of Beckham's determination to keep her safe. The biggest problem is that this pair don't quite pull it off. They lack that special something that would make me want to root for their happy ending. That may be in part to the fact that I never really warmed up to Reyna. She's immature and her back and forth about Beckham grew tedious and frustrating. She's throwing herself at him one minute, even when she thinks he's otherwise attached, and pouting and hating him the next. There are some unpredictable twists and one whopper of a cliffy, but considering my feelings about this couple, I'm still on the fence about whether I'll continue with the series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Omg omg, this is a home freaking run! Beckham and Reyna are way to intense. Once i started reading this book i could not put it. And the cliffhanger at the end was OMG! Out of this world. You will not be let down in this book. If you enjoy paranormal romance books with the destitution feeling you get when you read the hunger games them this is the book for you.
