Another incredible book from Andrew Joseph White. I loved reading about Silas, Daphne, and the exploration of identity in a historical setting. The horror elements and world building was well done too.

I was not expecting to be so distressed by a book. Truly heart-wrenching all throughout. 

It's Body horror & Paranormal horror very well done.

I ate this book up. It was right up my alley and the way the characters are written feels raw and real. I enjoyed the whole read, and the plot twists were very well written- as was everything else

The fact that violet eyes are a very prominent feature in this book made me worried because all I could think of is the Y/Ns of fan fiction with violet eyes, but that notion quickly went away when I realized that is nothing like that lol💜💜

I also love the romance between Silas and Daphne!!!

This book was beautifully aggressive for the topic at hand. it was never afraid to go in to its reader and rip out its guts. Personally helped me see the trans perspective a little better while seamlessly representing the neurodivergent community. Finally the characters hardships and flaws meshed beautifully with the historical fiction-4.9

I enjoyed this read more than I expected to. Elements of the handmaids tail and crimson peak all through a queer lens. I particularly enjoyed that Sylus’s internal dialogue was articulated in surgical terms. It kept the slightly dark and uncomfortable body horror vibes consistent throughout the entire book.
