"But a thing once known could never be unknown"
Disfigured body to prevent discovery -- which fails in the end, of course. Angela and her chauffeur -- who is quite a personality in this story -- stumble upon the body when their car goes in a ditch, and are involved to the end. Again, inheritance is featured as a motive in this story, and an unlikely heir appears at the end.

Another body
Yet another murder Angela stumbles across. Good to read more about William and tells more of their history together. You can tell there is a love interest with herself and the inspector

I very much doubt that these books were written in the 1920ies - especially after reading this one. Although delightful to read, it just doesn't sound right. I cannot tell why I think so but perhaps it is the length which is sometimes needed to explain details the contemporary reader would not have bothered to know about, perhaps it is the closeness between Angela and her servants, perhaps it is the effort involved to create atmosphere - but I do think it is written in recent times and written well.
BUT although I like it and would not have minded reading a modern novel set in the 20ies I kind of do mind being cheated - I cannot help but feel a little bit annoyed and start to concentrate more and more on possible mistakes or giveaways to confirm my suspicions ...

While visiting her friend Marguerite Harrison for the weekend at Romney Marsh, Angela Marchmont's car crashes into a ditch, and she discovers a body of a women. Helping Inspector Jameson, can either of them find the murderer.
An enjoyable, well-written mystery, though I did work out the why quite early but that did not distract from the story.
