Nice idea, and good reminder of how time travel affects the person rather than time itself. Reflective read, but not really my style of writing.

I really wanted to like this - cozy setting, interlinking stories, and an interesting premise could have set the scene for a lovely coffee shop read.

Despite the promising set-up, I found this to be poorly written, while the plot left a sour taste in my mouth.

For a slim book, there’s a lot of repetition, which results in wonky pacing. The rules of the time travel premise are explained again and again, while the brewing process for each cup of coffee in the café where it’s set is explained with excruciating detail.

Character’s histories and emotions are over explained, too, which often results in melodrama that I found pretty eye-rolling.

Worst of all, the plot. I have to wonder how the author views women. I’m genuinely confused that so many readers find this heartwarming. Every female character with a story arc ends up sacrificing her own desires, happiness and, in the case of the final story, actual life, for the benefit of others. Self-sacrifice can be a rousing theme, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with including it, but when these sacrifices are made exclusively by female characters, and mostly for people who aren’t at all grateful? It made me want to throw the book across the room.

On reading the author bio, I discovered this book is adapted from a stage play - which might explain the overly detailed descriptions of café life, which read like stage directions at times, and the melodramatic character moments. If you ask me, this one should have stayed on the stage. Perhaps putting some real human actors into the mix could mitigate some of the dodgy gender dynamics.
