I have never read anything like this and I don't expect to ever again!

Amazing content, but could of done with it being a bit shorter. Dragged at the end with a lot of information and dialogue being repeated

This is a great read for someone who is curious about the origin of evil. Bugliosi presents the ultimate crime and investigative tale. He offers the reader the chance to walk alongside his process and attempt to understand the philosophy of Manson. Though it took me four months, I'm proud of myself for reading this entire thing and would recommend it, though not to someone light of heart. I had to take some necessary breaks to get out of the freaky head of Charles.

I think this book should be in every true crime readers bookshelf. It was so well written, with so much details about everyone involved in this case. Being written by the DA on the case was very interesting and I appreciated when he introduced himself when he came into the story.

You’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t know who Charles Manson is. He’s one of the big bads, who’s name is synonymous with serial killers from the United States. This book gives us a deep dive into who he is, what he stood for, and how he convinced his followers to kill strangers.

I’d highly recommend this book to any true crime person looking for a book to sink their teeth into. I will warn you, no punches are pulled when it comes to the descriptions of the murders. It’s graphic and hard to read at times. But, very worth it to remember some of the lengths people will go.

A Classic in the true crime world.  For me it was not my speed as it focuses on the slow uncovering of information (and a lot of repeated info from different sources) versus just a story retelling.

I have a very twisted nature, I'm well aware. I have a very specific love for all things true crime, and I do have a special affinity for Charles Manson.

I can't help it.

I liked this book. It was very in depth. This is also another case of me being too nice and loaning out a book. Never did get the damn thing back, but considering the person who wanted to borrow it was as vanilla as you can get, I think it was worth it.

There is definitely a lot of detail in this book. The author is also the prosecutor for the Tate-LaBianca case. He had access to a whole lot of things that went on behind the scenes. It was definitely interesting. I liked reading the actual verbage used by Manson and his followers rather than a dramatic retelling. I also enjoyed the Afterword with a 25 year update. That was interesting as well. That being said, as much as I like true crime, I don't really care for all the court stuff. The detail was redundant and overwhelming at times for me. The book is extremely well written, but it just wasn't for me.
