Shinichi did not have anything resembling a plan. All his feelings seemed somehow paralyzed: his desire for life, his fear of death, his anger, his sadness. His legs simply carried him onward. It was not bravery in the face of hardship that drove him on, nor was it a sense of duty as a human being. He had seen too many deaths, and tomorrow, again, the monster he had led here would claim many lives.
There was a strange kind of balance. "It must be my turn soon" or "It's not right that I'm the only one who survives." Coupled with the guilt of having started this all, he was starting to feel "enough already." in other words, this was a form of escape. Realistically, all that waited for him was certain death.
But the more he walked, the more optimistic he felt. He did not know the reason why. "Might think of something once i find him..." Even though he should have known better.
Humans and parasites had no brain waves to drawn them together, and had no choice but to use their eyes. Certainly, Shinichi's senses were super-human. Add to that a kind of animal instinct. But given the size. Of the mountain, it was still nearly miraculous... that Shinichi found Goto first.
With my last tipsy visit to Worlds Apart in Liverpool only yielding one volume of Moriarty the Patriot, I thought it would be rude to not make use of the 3 for 2 offer. As such, I picked up the first volume of two other series to try and find another obsession.
Having enjoyed the first volume so much, I knew I had to own the full series and set up an eBay alert for anyone selling a complete set. My luck soon came in and I am now the proud owner of an almost pristine set.
When strange spores arrive on Earth, the parasytes they contain start taking over the body of any animal they come into contact with. One such spore enters the body of a teenage boy but his quick thinking limits the parasyte and it can only gain control of his arm. With the ability to shift his flesh into deadly weapons, the parasyte and host have to work out how to live together.
And here we are, at the end. The impact of the police raid on the council buildings has decimated the parasytes but has also revealed a new threat, host with numerous parasytes, some of whom Shin and Migi have met before.
I won't go into the final events too much, however I ended better than I could have expected. What's better is that there appears to be spin of series and a couple of collections of short stories by guest authors, which I shall be diving into in the future.
I am also tempted to upgrade my collection to the more recent colour releases, but I have to say there is something special about the classic black and white styling.
Overall the series doesn't pip Death Note into my top manga spot but it is a very close second. 5 stars.

I enjoyed this, I think all loose ends were tied up nicely and it was a solid end to the series.

I watched the anime when it first came out about ten years or so ago and I remember really liking it, but reading the manga, I find the story to be pretty flat and boring. The plot is repetitive at times and I find Shinichi to be a pretty basic, flat character. Relationships and dynamics aren't set up very well, especially with the police, and the ending is pretty unsatisfying. I liked the bonus chapter, but to have parasytes be this big evil that we're fighting against, only to have them all turn into a non-issue on their own is kind of boring. It makes the entire character's journey feel not really worth anything as nothing was really gained or learned during this time. I see the conversation the author is trying to have here, but I don't think it's executed very well as the entire thing is very surface level and doesn't really ever dive deeper into the themes the author seemed to be aiming for. This story was okay but not really one of my favorites.

Damn the ending of this book is quite sad
And we come to the end. I really enjoyed this series a lot (even the weakest I rated a 3/5.) It's just such a well done, interesting, well thought out story.
SO Shinichi is at the end of his wits. He's against the strongest Parasyte so far. This mofo took out nearly every single cop fully armed when they were cleaning them up last volume. SO now Shinichi and Migi try their best to face off against it.
On the flipside without spoilers we get the final conclusion of it all, and it made me smile. A little heavy handed on the message but a goddamn good message regardless. The ending to it all can't help but make you give it a thumbs up. It's sad, yet happy, if that makes any sense. I just loved the final panel so much it nearly boosted up my score from 3.5 to 4.5. I'll settle with 4. Either way this series needs to be read, go!
