3.5 stars. The first half was not holding my interest, the pacing picked up in the second half. The writing made me think of Lightlark, specifically from the number of times the word, "thing", was used. Somewhat interesting magic and religion system.

Enjoyable but if not for the last sentence of the epilogue I think I would’ve been ok with this being a standalone. Not sure I will read book two

I really liked the fml Roz! After the ending I'm very interested in what happens next.

I think that listening to the Audiobook instead of actually reading this was a mistake. Not because the narrators did a poor job but because I couldn't shake the feeling that I was missing something that I would've been able to see on paper. I also think that this book suffered the unfortunate fate of being a book I was excited to read. Overall, the book was pretty okay, and it's really right up my alley in a lot of ways. It just fell slightly flat in comparison to my high hopes. I'll definitely read the sequel if I remember to look out for it though

I don’t really know how to review this one, and that’s the best I can explain it.

I actually loved the characters, and the acceptance that not everyone has to be perfect and you can do so many things wrong but that doesn’t make you any less of a person was refreshing. That message was wonderful.

As far as the plot, it was definitely okay, and obviously what the author did made a lot of sense. Like, a lot of sense. At the same time, I would have loved to see it be a character we actually knew, because I feel like
the murderer being Enko didn’t evoke any feelings of shock or betrayal, and I would’ve loved to see that. Even though it doesn’t make sense, it would have been interesting to see a character i connected with and cared about to be the murderer.
