It was good not his best. The last chapter fell a bit like it was dragging.
I enjoyed this philosphical book about an emotional education very much. It is easy written and although it can offer some black and white discussions, you are given the tools to form an opinion an education to yourselves with what you redeem as important. I would definately recommend it to people who want to become more interested in the growth of people's emotional capacities (in a philisophical an humorously written way). It is, at least, not something we have ever learned at school and can all learn something from.

There are some stand out phrases in this book - its quite a quotable text. But I fear Botton was too focused on the poetry and perceived ‘profundity’ of his language that he fails to fully describe and explore his ideas.
Often I was confused at how we got to a certain topic and where the book was planning to take me next.
Nevertheless, it was a fun read.

Must read for everyone. Super informative and relatable. Not all parts might speak to you, but just in the unrelatable bits, you will find what makes others tick!

This is one of the best self-help books I have ever read. It is non-judging and less demanding. Usually these books give you a really bad conscience before presenting a solution. This book does not do that and it is much more relaxing. It instead reflects on different stories of how to approach life, giving profound and psychological reasoning.
I have to say that some parts are definetly better than others, so I would recommend skipping around a bit.

Quite an insightful reading into what school doesn't teach you: emotional education and all its facades. I believe it contains many "Aha" items as takeaway points for each of us...to maybe know ourselves a tad better, or at least generate some questions to shed a different light on our well-established, sometimes rigid, perspectives.
