an unexpectedly great look at what a good therapist vs. a bad therapist looks like in terms of treating DID, as well as subjective experiences of DID and how it manifests in a transgender woman.

I really loved this book. As I read Eamma's story and watched her grow, it was amazing. although at the onset it was very irritating to watch Toby be so judgemental about all that each part was suffering. The abuse and all the pain Ed suffered at the hands of their grandfather. What society expects is far greater than what anyone should be expected to live by.
Thank you so very much Emma for sharing your story, your journey

4.5/5 rounded up
This was a huge feat of a book (900 pages!!), and a fantastic lens into the life of trauma, mental illness and the struggles transgender humans have to get gender affirming care.
About halfway through I had to take multiple breaks because the “therapist” Toby was so horrible and unprofessional, but I think that that makes the end with a therapist that is helpful that much more of a relief.
Overall a good read and an important book.
