I really enjoyed this. The writing was amusing. It was an odd-couple novel with a 12 year-old boy and an older ex-con becoming friends through the game of scrabble. It was a great read. I definitely recommend it.
I'm old-fashioned so all the talk of boners and the boy looking at every set of boobs he came across caught me a little off-guard, but I suppose that is really what boys think about.
This is a quick and entertaining read. Give it a shot.

Very enjoyable book! I liked the characters and the development, very sweet. The plot was a bit generic, but still interesting to follow.
Finished it in one night, it was a very easy read. Good for when you want an emotional journey but dont have much time.

Si ce roman commence tranquillement, quand on embarque, on est partis pour la gloire! Avec des personnages sortant de l’ordinaire plus intéressants les uns que les autres, ce livre est un puissant témoignage de liberté, de tolérance et d’ouverture.

12-year-old misfit Ambrose almost died the day three bullies snuck a peanut inside of his sandwich at lunch. After that, his overprotective mom decides he should start correspondence school and soon he gets bored. So, he talks his neighbor, recovering addict and ex-con into taking him to Scrabble Club!
Funny and endearing, this is a story about understanding and compromise; grief and recovery. On a related note, I just started reading Stefan Fatsis' Word Freak and found the world of Scrabble he describes sounds a lot like the world in this book.

Loved it. Especially loved how unselfconscious Ambrose was - right on, Purple Cords!

A book about a 12-year-old boy that promotes reading and the love of words. I read it because a boy of approximately that age said it was good.
