I'm not entirely sure what to think of this book. I really enjoyed the first book in the series and after the cliffhanger, sort of, I was really curious what was going to happen next, but it seems that the series is growing into something different now. The first book was a romantasy, but this book becomes more of an epic fantasy. Don't get me wrong, but genres are fine, but epic fantasy is not always my thing. We did learn some new things by the end of the book and once more the cliffhanger is quite interesting. I'm just not entirely sure if I really enjoyed the way between the start of this book and the end of this book. It felt like there were a lot of moments not adding much to the story. It also felt like the characters were going in circles a little more often than was necessary. I have to admit, the latter fits the eventual storyline of the book, but still. Luckily the books are easy to read. I do want to know how the series ends and I do own it already. However, I won't be in a hurry to finish it.

Great fantasy! This book was a little slower than the first but it has everything I could ask of from a fantasy. Vivid world building, distinctive characters, action, mystery, and romance.
I feel like there's so much missing in the relationship development of all the characters. I'm just not as attached as I should be right now and I'm going to hit pause on this series. I'm looking for something GREAT and this just isn't hitting that for me. Maybe I'll come back to it. Maybe not.

I literally only cared about the last 5 chapters of this book. It was so boring. I skipped ahead multiple chapters and found my self genuinely not giving a single sh*t about anything that happened.
I'm not intrigued enough by the end of this book to continue, if I do ever continue this series it will be a long time from now. But as of right now this series ain't it for me.

This book continues and picks up after that heart wrenching ending of book 1. Cassia is determined to find some answers so she sets out for Solaria where she believes she can find them. Elander is reeling from Cassia’s absence. He wants to find her because he’s drawn to her, but he wants to protect her from his master, as well. He is literally being torn in two. This one is a little slower paced, but I love that we do get some insight into who Cassia could be, as well as what her powers are.
