The three stars is for this edition if the book - too many typos! I really enjoy some if the writing in this book, but the story and the character of Oliver himself do little for me.

This book was far too sad, it was making me depressed to read it.

Wonderfully done. I haven't read many classics yet, and this was my first Dickens. A very satisfying ending. Now I want to read every single Dickens out there!

Another bleak, yet fantastically written Dickens novel. My oldest (11) and I listened to/read this as part of his curriculum this year. The harshness and injustice of Oliver's life REALLY upset him. But by the end, he really liked the book. Because this wasn't my first Dickens novel, I knew it would probably be very bleak. I was in the play as a tween and did not realize just how deep and hard Oliver's life actually was. I just remembered the fun orphan and Fagin's boys scenes. Also, it bothered me that Dickens referred to Fagin as The Jew throughout, but I know things were different back then.

A classic. As a young child, the musical was one of my favourite films, and I've seen it so many times I just knew I had to read the book.

I wasn't disappointed. It's a fantastic read, and I couldn't recommend it more. It's a lovely story with great characterisation and a satisfying conclusion.
