The Last Emperox

This has been my favorite of The Interdependency series, so far. I enjoy the characters more and more in each installment, and even the villains are so entertaining that you can't really hate them, hate them.

A very satisfying ending to a series I enjoyed quite a lot.

2.5 stars. I typically enjoy Scalzi's books but this one felt half-baked. Like he gave up half way to a really good book.

Ok I’m just going to say it (and I know this isn’t even an unpopular opinion): I was really disappointed by the conclusion of this great series. The first book started off really great and I was excited about this brand new universe. So much potential! Then the second book happened and I thought ok…this is fine. And then the third.

Very satisfying end to the series. Lots of twists and turns and political intrigue and it was fascinating to read about the impending end of civilization as we know it from the point of view of April 2020. I couldn't put it down.

Again, I listened to the Wil Wheaton-narrated audio version, and--again--it didn't disappoint. The final book in this trilogy was mostly excellent as well, though I feel that the author left a few dangling threads which he acknowledges may never be addressed or returned to and that...irritates me. Mostly because I find the questions more interesting than the answers to the questions the novel starts with. To say much more in critique would be spoiling plot points, which, honestly are not bad, just....not what I wanted. It happens.

Had to re-read the previous two books to prepare. It had been two years since the last one. Always enjoy his work. Not my favorite of his, but his attention to detail is fantastic because it never feels overwhelming. I enjoyed reading it and it definitely felt like he could go further in this series if he ever felt like it. Good book..
