This is one of the first books I finished in 2020 and I liked it a lot. This series is not full of action but it's still worth the read. I recommend it.

Sweet. Great themes of loneliness and family.

“There’s always something to miss, no matter where you are.”
This was a lovely revisit of an old childhood friend. It was just as good as I remember.

Quick read, but a lovely and powerful story of love and belonging.

Frankly, I'm not sure why this book has gotten such a great reputation. I'll admit its well written but not any better than the Little House series which it is very similar to in setting and plot line. Additionally it is so short I just wonder why the author didn't flesh out a more robust novel that might have interested me more. I'd still recommend this book to readers 8 and older and those interested in Pioneer living.
hopeful lighthearted fast-paced

Love this book. We've read it before, but it was wonderful listening to Glenn Close narrate it. Such a sweet, touching book...gentle in every way. Great for kids of all ages. (Note: the mother of the two children died when the younger son was born, but that was before the story opens.)
