This book was good but not great for me. I do love that Adelina is so different than what you'd expect a main character to be. She's not a heroine out to save lives and make people happy. She is dark and getting darker, definitely a villain in the making, which is such an interesting twist for this kind of story.
I did find myself bored by much of the book. I read this book on my kindle every night right before going to sleep, so my boredom with those parts may just have been because of the time of day I was reading them, but I found myself getting lost during those fight and battle sequences.
My favorite part of the entire book was the last page, when Adelina has achieved and gotten everything she was fighting for, at the cost of everyone who was on her side and cared about her.
"This is what I have fought so hard for, what I sacrificed and bled so much for. This is everything I ever wanted- revenge against my enemies for what they've done to me. And I've achieved it. My revenge is complete.
I force a smile onto my face. In the silence, I sit alone on my throne and wait eagerly for all the satisfaction and triumph to hit me. I wait, and wait, and wait.
But it doesn't come."
This quote gave me chills!!!

Well. That... that was certainly a story of a villian.
my pros:
-the writing, always, enthralling
-the emotional twists and turns and ABUSE of me, the reader
-the wORLD
-the imagery and scenes and fights etc
my cons:
-wow it was dark but I really do understand that the story required it, but wow it was dark
-so much violence
-copious amounts of themes I fundamentally don't agree with
my grievances:
-gemma😭
-adelina
-violetta
-magiano
-adelina
-gemma
Adelina is just a poor girl, abused as a child; cultivated in darkness and pain, and I truly just want someone to hug the light back into her. that is all. I really hope The Midnight Star has SOME happiness. PLEASE? tell me it's so????

So much fun! I'm really loving this series, and the creepy, crazy twists... I have no idea what is going to happen next, and I'm going to have a heck of a time waiting to find out!
This book about an almost villain is a nice read that draws you into the world Mrs. Lu creates. The fight scenes completely grabbed my attention and the real truths that can be found in this book are both words of wisdom everyone needs to learn and words nobody wants to hear. It surprises me how I both like and dislike all the characters to a point. They all have secrets that others may or may not know, tell lies to others and themselves, and do terrible things that both sadden and intrigue me. One thing I disliked about this novel was that there was not a chapter from Raffaelle's POV telling Enzo about the Dagger's side of the story. I honestly feel like Adelina was right in that both truths and lies would be told in that meeting. We know the truths and lies Adelina told through her meeting with Enzo so I feel we should know about the other side since there would be a group of people versus one. This chapter missing for me made the confrontation between Enzo and Adelina seem a tad less powerful emotionally. Why didn't she get a chance to defend herself like the Daggers did? It's unfair but hopefully will be addressed in Book 3. I would also be interested to learn if Enzo feels like he is being used by both sides now. I'm hoping we get chapters with Enzo's POV in book 3. There has never been a being like him so it would be great to be in his mind. The romances in this book are also interesting and I wonder what will happen to them in Book 3. Everyone getting together should be extremely interesting.
These were the lessons that I learned from reading The Rose Society: 1) that ties to people and one's own mind can be broken extremely easily under the right circumstances, 2) emotions (especially love) can definitely be a detriment, and 3) nobody in this world has an easy life.

This book was a great sequel to The Young Elites and it really was where Adelina finally set her sights on the really dark path and succumbed to it after the experiences of the first book. With the company of Violetta she searches for more Elites to form her Rose Society and this was pretty interesting to watch because you get to see the other types of abilities the Blood Fever spawned.
This book really set the tone for the last book as it further expanded the universe of The Young Elites and made Adelina’s character even more complex. The writing as usual is great from Marie Lu.

When Adelina felt the pressure in the air that was Magiano using Violetta’s power wasn’t it?
Teren and the Queen feels like an unhealthy relationship? It just felt like Teren is just obsessed and the Queen is just using him to control the kingdom.
What is this relationship between Magiano and Adelina? I was still in denial because of her relationship with Enzo (although dead)
Trust Adelina to disguise herself as Raffaele to get Maeve to bind Enzo to her.
The Daggers want to turn Enzo onto Adelina to control her? This was an interesting concept because this was never the case with Tristan. But speaking about Tristan, man there is something wrong with that kid and I am pretty sure this will go wrong with Enzo too
.. Violetta’s name is gonna be puppet master? How weird.
Raffaele seems to think Windwalker is drawing her energy from her bones so it’s deteriorating. This is interesting? This also goes in line with Adelina’s power going out of control and she can no longer control her illusions, in that the powers turn on them.
Wow when Adelina used Teren to kill Giulietta? That was pretty epic but it just goes to show how much people can be tricked into doing things because of illusions.
OH NO GEMMA. OMG I was really saddened when she died, like she was the only other kindhearted one except for Violetta.
How is Magiano controlling the Balira without mimicking Gemma?
That’s all I have to say. Feel free to approach me and talk to me!

I have been wanting to finish this book for close to a decade. The emotions from the 1st book still raw whilst I read this book. Marie Lu hands down deserves her place as bestselling author of all time. I look forward to finish the final book
Another 4.5 star read. I have read this book for the Young Elites read along and was glad I picked up this series.
I really loved Adelina's character in the first book. She was always motivated by saving her sister from the Inquisition. However, with everything that happened, she became motivated by hate and revenge. Until it consumed everything and everyone she holds dear. This book contained too much darkness which surrounded the main character and in the end she wasn't happy at all. I really can't wait for the final book to come out to see how this world ends.
