My husband's favorite book. It is so well written. I really enjoyed reading it, however, I had to keep checking the front of the book where Shaara introduces all of the key players to remember which side they were on and where they fit in.

I love how this book brought a military battle to life - I'm all for making dry history become real. However, it wasn't gripping as we all know who won the Battle of Gettysburg. I also really struggled to keep track of who was on which side. Growing up in the US, I bet this would be extrememly common knowledge, but to an Aussie, I kept having to try and remember (and failed). This would be fantastic for students.

Read in Civil War class and at home, most notably while walking around my neighborhood at my house in Ingalls.

This book makes makes you feel like you are in the battle of Gettysburg alongside the historical participants. The focus is really on the men and their internal struggles which drew me deeper into this important battle.

About the battle at Gettysburg. It was really well written...felt more like a novel than a history book.
